Duties

  • Motor Vehicle Operator driving a Government owned diesel operated cab-chassis van (mobile health unit).
  • Drives mobile health units to various destinations as determined by supervisor. Transporting other staff to various clinic sites and various destinations.
  • Ensures the safe daily operation of the mobile health unit and other Government owned vehicles as necessary.
  • Patient registration duties including but not limited to, interpreting, setting up patient screenings, patient registration, assisting with health promotion, record keeping, community health fairs and other duties with patient registration.
  • Basic janitorial services such as cleaning patient areas, cleaning the mobile health units, and disposing of waste.
  • Other duties as assigned.

A one-year supervisory/managerial probationary period may be required upon selection/placement.

Measles and Rubella immunization required for selectees born after 1957 and seasonal influenza immunization is required for all staff working in Indian Health Service health care facilities.

COVID-19 vaccination is required for all selectees prior to entrance on duty.

The selected individual is required to obtain and maintain medical staff clinical privileges, including any licensure requirements. If privileges are not obtained or maintained during employment, the employee will be subject to adverse actions, up to and including removal from Federal service.

Background Investigation: If you are selected for this vacancy, you must undergo a pre-employment fingerprint check and background investigation. Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. Your resume must demonstrate at least one (1) year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade level in the Federal service obtained in either the private or public sector performing the following type of work and/or tasks: Examples Include: Following oral or written instructions and/or work orders; performing motor vehicle operator duties, including follow oral and written instructions for work assignments, follow established traffic and safety regulations, practices, and procedures pertaining to motor vehicle operation, operating motor vehicles under any or all of the following driving conditions: congested roadways, moderately steep mountainous terrain and/or narrow streets, determine safest and shortest route to destinations based on current road/traffic conditions, maintain records and documents actions, ensure cargo is properly stored and all transport directions are followed during transit. Basic Patient Registration and Janitorial duties: Cleaning offices, health care facilities. Checking in patients, using basic computer equipment such as computer, printers, scanners. Working with patients, patient scheduling, check-ins, and customer service.

A copy of your Commercial Drivers License (Class B) is required at the time of application.

Time In Grade
Federal employees in the competitive service are also subject to the Time-In-Grade Requirements: Merit Promotion (status) candidates must have completed one year of service at the next lower grade level. Time-In-Grade provisions do not apply under the Excepted Service Examining Plan (ESEP).

Per IHS policy (SGM 21-04) IHS selectees to positions located in Federally operated hospitals, health centers, and clinics must be fully vaccinated for COVID-19 before entry on duty or have IHS approve a medical or religious exemption. If an exemption is approved then wearing a face mask and regular testing for COVID-19 will be required. Your Human Resources Specialist will provide a list of documents acceptable as vaccination proof and instructions on how to submit your vaccination documentation or how to request a medical or religious exemption, if needed.

Federal Employees earn annual leave at a rate (4, 6 or 8 hours per pay period) which is based on the number of years they have served as a Federal employee. IHS may offer newly-appointed Federal employees credit for their directly related previous non-federal experience or active duty uniformed military service. This credited service can be used in determining the rate at which they earn annual leave.
