Job Description

The Washington Post is seeking an energetic assistant editor to work on its technology team to help deliver high-impact, insightful and accessible journalism about the tech that is changing our world.

The successful candidate will have a record of accomplishment in the newsroom, perhaps as a reporter or in operations or on a visual desk, and an appetite to learn the art of line editing. Experience line editing is not required; this role is designed to help talented journalists make the leap into editing from other parts of the newsroom. What is required is a keen sense for news and the drive to chase a great story. A collaborative spirit, a talent for working across newsroom teams, creative thinking on story forms and storytelling and a keen eye for visually compelling journalism are also highly valued in this position. An interest in technology and its ramifications - social, cultural and economic - is essential.

This editor will work with veteran assignment editors on the tech team to mobilize reporters, set coverage priorities, shape reporting strategies and edit a wide range of stories, from breaking news to enterprise projects.

This position, which is part of a major expansion of The Post's editing ranks, is based in our San Francisco newsroom.

Interested candidates should upload a cover letter and résumé to our jobs portal. All application materials can be uploaded to the same field. Applications will be reviewed on a rolling basis until the position is filled, but those received by 06/24/2022 will be prioritized. The cover letter should be addressed to Business Editor Lori Montgomery and Technology Editor, Christina Passariello.

The Post strives to provide its readers with high-quality, trustworthy news and information while constantly innovating. That mission is best served by a diverse, multi-generational workforce with varied life experiences and perspectives. All cultures and backgrounds are welcomed.
