Assistant Athletic Director, Compliance The George Mason University, Intercollegiate Athletic Department, a NCAA Division I member of the Atlantic 10 Conference, is seeking an Assistant Athletic Director for Compliance. George Mason University has a strong institutional commitment to the achievement of excellence and diversity among its faculty and staff, and strongly encourages candidates to apply who will enrich Mason's academic and culturally inclusive environment.About the Position: The Assistant Athletic Director, Compliance reports to the Deputy Athletic Director for Compliance and NCAA Governance, and will work collaboratively to administer and manage a comprehensive rules compliance department, as well as have oversight responsibility of various compliance related functions. Responsibilities: General Compliance Issues:Provide ongoing education for the George Mason University community (student-athletes, coaches, staff, and University Administrators) with regards to University, Atlantic 10 Conference and NCAA rules;Act as Database Administrator for ARMs, CAi and Banner;Responsible for maintenance of student-athlete data in Banner;Administer the National Letter of Intent program for prospective student-athletes;Maintain and update the Intercollegiate Athletics (ICA) Compliance website;Assist the Sports Medicine Department with George Mason and NCAA Drug Testing of student-athletes, including confirming test schedules, and ensuring notification of test results.Scholarships:Assist the Deputy AD for Compliance in the administration of athletic scholarships and maintenance of the squad list for each sport team.Regular (Annual/Monthly) Projects:Assist with NCAA/Mason annual rules meetings for student-athletes;Review and update the Athletics Department Compliance Manual;Administer all NCAA and Mason annual forms for student-athletes and athletic department staff;Work in conjunction with the academic support staff in producing the annual Student-Athlete Handbook;Responsible for publishing monthly compliance newsletters.Recruiting (Bylaw 13):Monitor and approve all aspects of recruiting visits (official and unofficial);Monitor and approve coach participation with local sports clubs;Administer the annual NCAA coaches recruiting exam;Monitor all recruiting activity with the ARMS online system and through Mason Finance Gateway (MFG) workflow (for travel reimbursements);Coordinate the process for approval of institutional camps/clinics.Eligibility (Bylaw 14):Responsible for certifying initial-eligibility requirements of approximately 100 prospective student-athletes annually;Serve as the University's primary contact with the NCAA Eligibility Center, conducting core course evaluations for all prospects to ensure qualifier status, and writing and filing any necessary initial-eligibility waivers;Assist the Deputy AD and the registrar with the verification of student-athlete continuing eligibility;Assist the Deputy AD with transfer requests from George Mason student-athletes and student-athletes transferring into George Mason University;Serve as primary liaison to University Admissions staff, coordinating all aspects of Admissions process for all incoming student-athletes.Awards and Benefits (Bylaw 16): Monitor and approve all student-athlete complimentary admissions;Track annual student-athlete awards to ensure compliance with NCAA maximums;Assist in administration of Student Assistant Fund monies.Playing and Practice Seasons (Bylaw 17): Work cooperatively with coaches, staff and student-athletes to monitor and manage all aspects of playing and practice seasons, including season declaration and number of contests;Coordinate and monitor countable athletically related activities logs using ARMS;Monitor student-athlete outside competition and summer athletic activities.Rules Education: Responsible for the development and implementation of a comprehensive rules education program, including consistent dissemination of information to all applicable constituent groups (student-athletes, coaches, staff, parents, boosters, etc.);Organize and maintain a comprehensive outreach program to ensure compliance for athletics booster groups and the public as needed;Represent Mason at various community events including, but not limited to, College Fairs and High School information nights.Required Qualifications: Advanced degree, or training and work experience at a level that equates to an advanced degree;Some (generally 3 years) of NCAA Division I compliance related experience on campus, at the NCAA national office or in a Conference office setting;Working knowledge of NCAA Division I rules;Prior experience or familiarity with NCAA applications (e.g., LSDBi, RSRO, CAi);Demonstrated advanced organizational skills with the ability to multi-task and work with frequent interruptions;Effective verbal and written communication skills and effective listening skills;Must currently possess an appropriate, active, valid motor vehicle operator's license that meets all of GMU's requirements for operating state vehicles and equipment under Mason's Vehicle Use Policy 1411 https://universitypolicy.gmu.edu/policies/vehicle-use/. The Office of Risk Management reserves the right to review the driver's licenses and Motor Vehicle Reports (MVRs) of all candidates selected with employment contingent upon a favorable review.Preferred Qualifications:Working knowledge of Ellucian Banner and ARMS software;5 years of NCAA Division I compliance related experience on campus, at the NCAA national office or in a Conference office setting or legal experience.
