Job Announcement

The Department of Health, School Health Division is in search of a Public Health Nurse (PHN II) to provide a variety of direct care services to Fairfax County Public School (FCPS) students with complex medical conditions and moderate to severe emotional disabilities, intellectual disabilities and autism. Administers skilled procedures and direct care to students with medical conditions, works with students' emotional disabilities, administers and monitors medications for efficacy and side effects. Develops plans of care and intervention effectiveness in the classroom setting, provides health education for students, staff and families. Maintains the health room, and provides care for sick or injured students according to FCPS protocol and physician's orders. Works in conjunction with the PHN II Care Coordinator assigned to the school.

Note: This is a 35 hour/week position, approximately 10 months/year. The appointee to this position must be available to work limited hours during the Extended School Year over the summer. Benefits are accrued accordingly.

This position includes a signing bonus of $2,000 for new hires.

Employment Standards

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Graduation from a college or university accredited by the National League for Nursing or the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education with a bachelor's degree in Nursing; plus one year post-licensure nursing experience.

CERTIFICATES AND LICENSES REQUIREMENTS:

Possession of a current license or a multistate licensure privilege to practice as a Registered Nurse in the Commonwealth of Virginia.

A valid motor vehicle driver's license.

AED-Required within 60 days

CPR -Required within 60 days

NECESSARY SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:
The appointee to this position will be required to complete a criminal background check, a Child Protective Services Registry, a driving record check, and a sanction screening to the satisfaction of the employer. Tuberculosis test.

All newly hired employees are required to be fully vaccinated against COVID-19 (two weeks after the last required dose) as a condition of employment or obtain approval of a medical or religious exemption prior to their start date. Proof of an exemption or vaccination status will be required during the pre-employment onboarding process. New employees who obtain an exemption from the vaccine mandate for medical or sincerely held religious beliefs may be subject to a weekly testing requirement. Vaccinated employees and employees with a medical or religious exemption will complete the attestation online on their first day of employment or shortly thereafter.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
Preferred candidates will have at least two years experience providing health services for school aged-children, or working in an acute care, school or mental health setting with hands on direct patient care. Experience working on multi-disciplinary teams. Candidates should possess strong oral and written communication skills; detail oriented, and demonstrate effective and customer oriented communication skills. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with diverse groups while working independently and in a collaborative team environment. Experience working with ethnically diverse populations.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
Employee is required to walk, stand, sit, bend, kneel, reach, climb stairs and carry equipment or young children up to 25 pounds in weight. Uses hands to grasp, handle or feel. Visual acuity is required to read data on a computer monitor. Ability to operate keyboard driven equipment. Ability to drive a vehicle. Position frequently communicates and must be able to exchange accurate information with others verbally and in writing. All duties are performed with or without reasonable accommodations.
