Job Announcement

Responsible for a variety of zoning administration functions to include:
  1. Research and preparation of responses to complex zoning inquiries, verbally and in writing, including use determinations, compliance letters, vested rights determinations, and other interpretations of the Zoning Ordinance;
  2. Serving as project manager for Zoning Ordinance amendments and/or appeals to the Board of Zoning Appeals;
  3. Attends meetings, makes presentations, writes reports, collaborates with internal and external customers and interprets data relating to land use planning and zoning.
  4. Performs related duties as required.
NOTE: Individual must be willing to participate in work assignments and meetings during the evening hours. This ad may be used to fill multiple positions within the division.

Employment Standards

Any combination of education, experience, and training equivalent to the following:

Graduation from an accredited four-year college or university in a planning related field; plus four years of experience in a planning-related field.

The appointee is required to complete a criminal background check to the satisfaction of the employer.

All newly hired employees are required to be fully vaccinated against COVID-19 (two weeks after the last required dose) as a condition of employment or obtain approval of a medical or religious exemption prior to their start date. Seeking individual with knowledge of the principals, practices, and techniques of planning and zoning. The preferred candidate should have strong written and oral communication skills, particularly in the preparation of technical reports and regulatory language, and the presentation of information to government entities, various committees, and the public. Experience in reviewing complex plans, building permits, development plans, survey plats, and other zoning related legal documents is also desired. Master’s degree in planning or a closely related field and AICP membership.

Position is primarily sedentary. Employee may be required to carry items up to 15 pounds. Work assignments may also require that the employee make site visits. All duties are performed with or without reasonable accommodation.

Panel interview and may include written exercise.
