The Fairfax County Park Authority (FCPA) is seeking Land Program Supervisors (Park/Rec Specialist II) to be a part of one of the most highly regarded park systems in the country. With more than 25,000 acres of parkland, nine RECenters, eight golf courses, three lakefront parks, and more, FCPA is an exciting organization to be a part of and there are many opportunities for staff to make a difference at every level.

Under the supervision of the RECenter Manager and section managers, plans and implements financially self-sustaining recreational programs including classes, day camps and events at the RECenter, nearby public schools and parks. Through in-house and vendor-provided programs, works collaboratively with agency staff, community groups, schools, and private businesses to offer a wide variety of program opportunities for customers of all ages, abilities, and backgrounds.

Prepares quarterly program schedule of classes, day camps and events based on customer demand and trends. Loads scheduling data into the registration system and completes tasks associated with program management. Processes class and camp registrations and refunds. Prepares promotional materials for site programs. Conducts community outreach efforts by working with schools, community groups, agency partners, and other special interest groups such as homeschoolers to promote Park Authority programs. Recruits, trains, supervises, and schedules staff and volunteers. Completes and reviews purchase requisitions, processes, invoices, and manages procurement cards according to county procedures. Evaluates program participation levels, profitability, and cancelation rates and makes adjustments to improve performance. Develops, manages, and promotes special events for the site and agency. Works within allotted budget to achieve required cost recovery goals. Ensures compliance with federal, state, and county safety and health standards and agency standard operational procedures. Participates as a member of the land programs team and agency teams as required. Expected to work varied work shifts including weekends, evenings, holidays, and early morning hours and serves as manager on duty.

Note: Position may be located at any RECenter within Fairfax County.

Employment Standards

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Any combination of education, experience, and training equivalent to the following: (Click on the aforementioned link to learn how Fairfax County interprets equivalencies for “Any combination, experience, and training equivalent to”)
Graduation from an accredited four-year college or university with a bachelor's degree in recreation and park management, therapeutic recreation, or other closely related field; plus, two years of progressively responsible experience in park or recreation services related work, as applicable to the position.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
Experience planning, developing, managing, and evaluating revenue-generating recreation classes for adults and children. Planning, developing, managing, and evaluating revenue-generating recreation day camps for children and teens. Experience working with private businesses under contract to deliver recreation programs. Experience developing, managing, and marketing special events. Experience as a shift manager at a facility. Experience providing virtual programs to the public. Experience using basic Microsoft Office Suite software and RecDynamics or a similar online registration management system.

CERTIFICATES AND LICENSES REQUIRED:
  • Driver's License (Required)
  • First Aid certification, within 90 days of appointment
  • CPR certification, within 90 days of appointment
  • Medication Administration Training (MAT), within 90 days of appointment
  • Pool Operator's License, within 90 days of appointment

NECESSARY SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:
All newly hired employees are required to be fully vaccinated against COVID-19 (two weeks after the last required dose) as a condition of employment or obtain approval of a medical or religious exemption prior to their start date. Proof of an exemption or vaccination status will be required during the pre-employment onboarding process. New employees who obtain an exemption from the vaccine mandate for medical or sincerely held religious beliefs may be subject to a weekly testing requirement. The appointee to this position will be required to complete a criminal background check, child protective services registry check, and driver's license check to the satisfaction of the employer.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
Ability to lift up to 40 pounds occasionally and to stand for extended duration. All duties may be performed with or without reasonable accommodations.
