Manager Cyber Technical - Platform Engineer (Remote Eligible)

Capital One is looking for an experienced Platform Engineer to manage a team of engineers who ensure that enterprise cloud security controls are designed and built effectively. This role will be responsible for maintaining & improving the cloud control validation process, providing expertise on cloud services and security, and guiding engineers as they grow their career in cloud security.

The Platform Engineer is also responsible for identifying and driving opportunities for improvement such as process simplification, automation of tasks, and evaluation of new tools and technology that create value for the organization.

Candidates for this role should have expert knowledge and experience with cloud-based platforms, such as AWS. Candidates should be passionate about cybersecurity with an eye for continuous improvement and empathy for development teams.

Responsibilities:
  • Assist in the detection of vulnerabilities on both internal and external Capital One platforms, devices, addresses, and applications.
  • Create and evaluate compliance policies based on CIS benchmarks.
  • Partner with platform teams to ensure that hardening standards are accurate and controls are applicable.
  • Work with a broad range of technologies in order to provide guidance, assistance, and escalation support to risk and remediation managers, engineering teams, and support staff.
  • Review vulnerability and compliance scanning reports and understand and explain detection criteria and reasoning.
  • Support and maintain both physical and virtual scanning infrastructure, including the lifecycle of software agents deployed to all endpoints.
  • Research new tools to expand and refine our scanning capabilities.
  • Help the team improve our existing processes, procedures, and documentation.
  • Collaborate with other Cyber and Engineering teams on high-severity or high-urgency problems and issues, often with tight timelines or other constraints.
  • Ensure team documentation is accurate, complete, and develop roadmaps and prioritized lists of technical debt to assist in planning discussions.
  • Identify manual processes that can be improved by automation and create scripts and processes to make it happen.
  • Understand complicated requests from internal and external audit teams and respond appropriately.
  • Work with our third-party partners to manage technical support requests, develop new features, and ensure our programs are healthy and functional.
  • Participate in an on-call rotation for 24x7 escalation requests.
  • Develop presentations and demos showcasing the team's work.
  • Learn and share by attending conferences and training.

Basic Qualifications
  • High School Diploma, GED or equivalent certification
  • At least 6 years of experience in software development or information technology
  • At least 1 year of experience working with the Qualys platform (or other similar cyber vulnerability management tools).
  • At least 1 year of experience working with AWS, GCP, or Azure.


Preferred Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's Degree
  • 3 Plus years of experience working with the Qualys platform.
  • 3 Plus years of experience working with AWS.
  • 2 plus years of experience with Python.
