Position Information
The Department of Parks & Recreation (DPR) is seeking multiple part-time and temporary Lifeguards for the Long Bridge Aquatics & Fitness Center to work shifts as on-duty lifeguards. These positions will serve as the primary guards in the facility and will monitor two bodies of water, including a 50-meter pool and a leisure pool with a water slide and other play features. Lifeguards will work on deck or in lifeguard chairs and serve as the primary protection against water related injuries. Lifeguards may be scheduled to work morning, afternoon, evening, or weekend shifts.
The Long Bridge Aquatics & Fitness Center has something for everyone! A 50-Meter FINA compliant pool, a Leisure Pool with in-water volleyball & basketball, and a lazy river, along with a fitness studio, three community rooms, and two wet-classrooms for fitness classes, parties, and gatherings. A pre-hire background check will be made on all candidates who are selected for employment, which may include the following: criminal record, driving record, education, reference check, professional licensure, and credit history. Staff hired may be required to obtain and maintain the following certification(s) during employment:

- Providing maintenance and performing minor pool maintenance;
- Monitoring water treatment and filtration equipment;
- Managing swimming pool supplies and equipment;
- Overseeing the collection of entry fees and pass sales;
- Ensuring the safety of all patrons and the safe operation of the facility;
- Ensuring compliance with County policies and procedures and Health and safety standards; and
- Performing other duties as assigned.
Selection Criteria
Minimum: This position may be filled at the full performance or trainee level depending upon applicant qualifications.
Trainee Level:
- Some experience performing lifeguard duties; and
- Obtain an American Red Cross Lifeguard Certification within 90 days of hire.
- Some experience performing lifeguard duties; and
- Possession of American Red Cross Lifeguard Certification at time of hire.
- Knowledge of lifeguarding and best practices related to pool safety;
- Lifeguard in a recreational or competitive pool setting with many programs;
- Possession of CPR/AED Certification;
- Possess Lifeguarding for the Professional Rescuer Certification; and/or
- Possess American Red Cross Water Attraction Credential for Lifeguards.
