Team Leader, Mental Health Outpatient Program

Position Overview:

This senior clinical leadership position provides overall clinical and administrative management of our Mental Health Outpatient and Adult Intake Programs. These teams are comprised of clinically licensed therapists and case managers who provide diagnostic assessment, individual and group therapy, administration and interpretation of psychometric measures, crisis intervention and case management services to adults with mental illness and/or co-occurring substance use disorders and intellectual disabilities. This position serves on the management team in the Division of Clinical and Emergency Services and works very closely with managers of other clinical teams to ensure services to our clients meet the highest and best practice standards.

Examples of Duties:
  • Provides direct clinical and administrative leadership and supervision to a team of clinicians.
  • Provides clinical supervision and consultation to assist therapist supervisors, therapists, and case managers in assessing and managing clinical risk, solving problems, and guiding clients toward developing and establishing goals.
  • Establishes goals and objectives for all program components, prepares program reports, and evaluates programs' effectiveness.
  • Designs and implements new clinical services based on Evidence Based Best Practices, data collection from Credible (Electronic Health Record), and feedback from clients, staff, and referral sources.
  • Ensures that cases presenting with multiple, complex clinical issues have the appropriate risk assessments and case coordination (with internal and external resources) to ensure client and community safety.
  • Plans and organizes the work of a team and determines work methods and priorities; Synthesizes input from clinical staff, clients, stakeholders, research, State and federal guidance, etc. in planning programming.
  • Motivates independent clinical professionals to perform as a team at a high level of effectiveness and client satisfaction; supports staff in their professional and clinical development.
  • Monitors individual and team compliance with qualitative and quantitative standards that include quality of clinical work, clinical outcomes, client satisfaction, medical records compliance with federal, State and insurance regulations, staff productivity and stakeholder satisfaction.
  • Approves schedule, leave and time cards, counsels, conducts discipline, recommends performance improvement plans or termination.
  • Other duties as assigned.

What you need to have (Minimum Qualifications):

Candidates must possess a current Commonwealth of Virginia license as an LCSW, Clinical Psychologist, or be license eligible (anyone that has completed all require education and supervision as required by an applicable board). Three years of program management experience in a community mental health or similar setting, and three years of experience providing mental health and/or substance abuse services, including diagnostic evaluations, crisis intervention, and case management, and possession of an M.S.W., M.A., M.S.N., or a PH.D. degree from an accredited school, Virginia Licensure or immediate eligibility for Virginia licensure at the time of appointment as a LCSW, LPC, Clinical Nurse Specialist, or Clinical Psychologist, or any equivalent combination of experience and training which provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities.

Experience and ability to motivate independent clinical professionals to function as a team at a high level. Experience and ability to establish and implement policies and procedures to enhance treatment effectiveness and efficiency, knowledge, skills and experience with Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Dialectical Behavior Therapy, co-occurring treatment, stages of change, motivational interviewing, assessment of needs, strengths, risk and mental status, group, individual and family therapy and crisis intervention.

Flexible Hybrid Schedule (On-site and Telework)

This is a full-time position (40-hours) Monday through Friday, 8:30AM - 5:00PM.
