Sr Business Analyst - Corporate Strategy; Strategic Intelligence

Projects focus primarily on formulating enduring and profitable growth and value enhancement strategies, while working within the business to influence results and ensure follow through.

The Integrated Data Engineering, Analysis, and Science-IDEAS-team within Strategy partners with other teams to develop insights on consumer behavior, market conditions, and peer performance by analyzing and applying statistical modeling and machine learning to a wealth of customer-level and market-level data. Our team builds and analyzes proprietary data sources, giving us unique insights and opportunities to examine the credit and banking industry.

Position Summary

As an analyst on the IDEAS team, you will collaborate with other Strategy teams, lines of business, and external vendors to bring consumer insights to life and influence highly strategic decisions. You will work on a variety of different initiatives in a close team environment. Many of the day-to-day projects emphasize a need for strong analytical thinking and problem-solving skills. Key to success in the role will be synthesizing information from various sources, performing analyses and designing solutions to support them, and successfully communicating findings and recommendations to your customers.

Responsibilities:
  • Collaborate as part of a cross-functional team to conduct novel research and generate new insights
  • Use open source technologies to support rigorous analysis of billions of consumer financial records and other complex data sources
  • Work with the business to provide consultancy and translate the business needs to design and develop tools, techniques, metrics, and dashboards for insights and data visualization
  • Partner with other lines of business and outside firms to benchmark Capital One performance with competitors
  • Support analysis that provides meaningful insights on business strategies
  • Work with Tech talent to build or enhance existing data pipelines to ensure data quality, and build features to enable analysis and insight generation

Basic Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's Degree
  • At least 2 years of experience in Business Analysis, Data Analysis or a combination
  • At least 1 year of experience in querying, analyzing, and working with data or a combination


Preferred Qualifications:
  • 3+ years of experience in Python, R, Scala, or SQL
  • 3+ years of experience working BI tools Amazon QuickSight, Tableau, or combination
  • 2+ years of experience working with Agile development methodologies
  • Ability to analyze and solve problems independently in a constantly changing environment
  • Proficiency in data analysis and in working with large data sets including with database queries, data visualization tools, and in cloud-based environments
  • Robust workstream management skills, including thoughtful attention to detail and skillful balancing of multiple priorities
  • Demonstrably strong written and verbal communication skills
