Job Description

The Washington Post is looking for an experienced social media editor based on the West Coast to join our expanding social team. We want a savvy editor who can successfully connect Post journalism and audiences across platforms.

This position is on our core social team, which is responsible for The Post's main branded accounts on Facebook, Twitter, Reddit and Telegram. The team optimizes the distribution of our journalism to attract and engage new audiences. This role requires collaboration with reporters and editors across the newsroom and works closely with our Instagram team.

Candidates should have experience managing a news organization's social accounts during breaking news, planned live events and quiet moments when there is time to craft that perfect share text. We're looking for someone who writes sharp headlines targeted toward specific audiences and has a command of voice and tone on social media. Comfort using analytics tools such as Chartbeat, Google Analytics and Facebook/Twitter/Instagram engagement insights is preferred, as is the ability to understand and act upon these metrics when appropriate.

Please consider applying if you have several of the following attributes: at least two years of journalism experience, experience using social management tools such as SocialFlow, experience reading and using analytics to make decisions, fluency with social networks such as YouTube or TikTok, and the ability to investigate and verify claims on social media.

This position is based in our San Francisco office.

Candidates should upload a résumé and cover letter outlining your experience, including the accounts you've run before, to our jobs portal. Applications will be reviewed on a rolling basis until the position is filled, but those received by June 30 will be prioritized. Address the cover letter to Deputy Director of Social Travis Lyles and Head of Curation and Platforms Coleen O'Lear.

The Post strives to provide its readers with high-quality, trustworthy news and information while constantly innovating. That mission is best served by a diverse, multi-generational workforce with varied life experiences and perspectives. All cultures and backgrounds are welcomed.

Ever wondered if what you are doing will Impact Tomorrow? At The Washington Post, every employee shapes the way we deliver the news. Find the career that's right for you
