The assignment editor will oversee daily operations and strategy for The Post's branded accounts on Facebook, Twitter, Reddit, Telegram, Snapchat and Instagram. They will work closely with the deputy director, social, and editors across the newsroom, including the SEO, news analytics, homepage and app teams, to thoughtfully amplify The Post's journalism in native ways. The assignment editor will be expected to push platform experimentation and empower social editors to find new ways to attract and engage with the next generation of Washington Post subscribers.

They should be excited about coaching others to consistently deliver clever, high-impact storytelling that takes advantage of each social platform's distinct benefits. Candidates should be well-versed in analytics tools such as Chartbeat, Google Analytics and each platform's engagement insights; the ability to understand and act upon metrics when appropriate is imperative.

If you're a well-rounded news junkie who is comfortable editing in a fast-paced environment and have some of the following qualifications, please consider applying: at least two years of management experience in a newsroom; at least six years of journalism experience; experience using social management tools such as SocialFlow; experience reading and using analytics to make decisions; experience with social networks such as YouTube or TikTok; and the ability to investigate and verify claims on social media.

This position is based in our Washington newsroom and is not eligible for remote work.

Candidates should upload a résumé and cover letter outlining your social and management experience, including accounts you've run, to our jobs portal. Applications will be reviewed on a rolling basis until the position is filled, but those received by June 24 will be prioritized.
