Arnold & Porter is seeking a Policy Specialist for the Legislative and Public Policy Practice Group in the Washington, DC office.  With approximately 35 professionals in Washington and California, the Legislative and Public Policy Practice Group advocates for clients before the United States Congress and the departments and agencies of the Executive branch.  Professionals in this group include political appointees in recent Presidential administrations and a bipartisan group of Congressional staff alumni.

The Legislative and Public Policy Practice Group is Chambers-rated as one of the top legislative practices at a national law firm.  The Legislative and Public Policy Practice Group works in a high-energy, fast-paced environment that rewards initiative and teamwork in the pursuit of quality client service. The primary focus of the group is on Congressional and regulatory advocacy on topics including: healthcare, insurance, energy, tax, financial services, telecommunications, trade, transportation, education, defense, foreign sovereigns, appropriations, and congressional investigations.  Clients include globally recognized brands, Fortune 500 companies, innovative start-ups, leading associations, healthcare systems, educational institutions, units of local government, foreign governments, and coalitions.

Qualified candidates for this position will have either a minimum of one year of experience working in federal legislative and public policy roles, or are recent graduates with a past government relations internship.  Relevant professional or internship experience might include staff work in Congress, or for a corporation or association in general government affairs.  Ideal candidates will likely have relevant substantive experience in one or more of the following policy sectors: Appropriations, defense, education, environment, financial services, foreign affairs, healthcare, infrastructure, tax, technology, trade or transportation.

All applicants should have a four-year degree, excellent academic credentials and references.  All Policy Specialists will be required to be registered lobbyists under the Lobbying Disclosure Act, and the Policy Specialists who are not working on healthcare issues may also be required to register to work for foreign sovereign clients under the Foreign Agents Registration Act.

Please submit a cover letter, resume, transcripts and a 3-5 page writing sample on a advocacy-based topic of their choosing. Submitting a writing sample of more than 5 pages or failing to submit a transcript will eliminate a candidate from consideration.

We would ask that all interested candidates must submit their documents by 5:00 p.m. ET on Friday, July 8, 2022.
