The Director, Transportation Logistics is responsible for overseeing transportation operations and logistics for Facilities Planning, Construction and Management. The position provides leadership and supervision for all activities related to transportation operations and optimization of logistical services across the university to align FPCM’s strategy with our customer’s experience/expectations. This position reports to the Associate Vice President of Facilities Planning, Construction and Management (AVP FPCM ). 
 
Key Functions of the Position include: 
● Demonstrates team leadership and manages the operations of all transportation related operations, including working with AVP FPCM to develop strategies, goals, maintain policies and procedures, and assesses systems and services on an ongoing basis, to identify potential operational optimization. 
● Responsible for managing the University shuttle contract and ensures contractor performance standards are met in line with contracts. 
● Responsible for managing the 4Ride “safe ride” service for students including management of operational and staffing requirements. 
● Responsible for management of the University fleet operations in compliance with all University policies and procedures (e.g., permit and licensing, insurance, vehicle inspections) and ensuring the vehicles are in good repair and operation. Works with the GW Procurement to develop strategic sourcing agreements for fleet-related matters (e.g., fueling, inspections, and maintenance). 
● Responsible for event setup for university managed venues. 
● Responsible for relocation (moving and hauling) services to include Master Service Agreements and operational logistics. 
● Responsible for waste management services, union agreement(s), equipment, and operational logistics. 
● Responsible for management and updating of fleet management plans with each University user group (e.g. Public Safety, Athletics, facilities maintenance) and implementation of management plans to include vehicle acquisition; assignment; and disposition. Reviews new fleet purchase requests and makes recommendations to AVP FPCM for purchase or shared fleet use, and collaborates with GW Procurement for approved purchases. Oversees and/or coordinates vehicle assignments and rentals to University departments and organizations. Ensures departments and organizations operate vehicles in accordance with department policies and procedures. Investigates complaints regarding drivers; services; policies and procedures, working to ensure appropriate resolution and follow-up. 
● Manages special projects and initiatives in areas of responsibility. 
● Engages in open communications and maintains good working relationships with contractors so that service and other issues are addressed and resolved in a timely manner. Ensures stakeholders are kept abreast of any/all developments. 
● Overall budget responsibility for the areas of responsibility while ensuring operations meet or exceed service level expectations. 
● Ensures that services are delivered in a quality fashion and in a manner that prioritizes customer service; 
● Develops and monitors service metrics to ensure service standards are being met; 
● Conducts regular assessments of service delivery for areas of responsibility and provides recommendations for changes and other improvements within the context of resource constraints; 
● Participates in ongoing professional development opportunities; and 
● Cultivates, builds and fosters a service-centric team dynamic and philosophy 
● Provides coaching, mentoring and professional development opportunities to team to include goal setting and performance management.

Minimum Qualifications:  Qualified candidates will hold a Bachelor’s degree in an appropriate area of specialization plus 8 years of relevant professional experience, or, a Master’s degree or higher in a relevant area of study plus 6 years of relevant professional experience. Degree must be conferred by the start date of the position. Degree requirements may be substituted with an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.
