Primary Purpose

The Application Manager provides leadership, software application lifecycle management, oversight and continuous improvement through vendor(s), business and IT partnership to achieve business goals, objectives and maximize investments in enterprise systems. Ensures alignment to business capability maturity and IT strategy. Provides application-related direction and guidance to implementation teams in a fast-paced, cross-functional environment. Manages end to end application roadmaps, configuration, validation, implementation, adoption, maintenance and upgrade of multiple applications. Provides subject matter or technical expertise in at least one large scale application.

  • Oversee/ manage full range of software application lifecycle covering a portfolio of
  • applications supporting global clinical trials and enterprise systems
  • Partner with business leaders to ensure alignment of applications with business and IT strategies, research and share information on updates to existing or new and emerging applications, technology trends, products and capabilities within the assigned portfolio
  • Support the development of business cases and facilitating the estimation process with vendors, IT and business partners
  • Serve as a focal point to gather and analyze business requirements, determine feasibility based on application capability, communicate application related issues, and collaborate with project teams and vendors on changes, fixes, and updates
  • Partner with clinical, corporate, and IT stakeholders to define, develop and execute application roadmaps
  • Oversee/ manage vendor relationship, facilitate contract needs, licensing, SOW, SLA, project management, resources, and delivery of applications within time and budget
  • Manage implementation of applications, including development of project plans, identification of tasks, resource management, configuration, validation, user acceptance and creation of training documentation
  • Oversee applications within the assigned portfolio including system administration, system integration, user role/ group assignment, report creation, change control, validation, troubleshooting and triaging application issues
  • Provide technical oversight for data mapping requirements and assist with data migration activities
  • Manage validation efforts including test script creation or review, serve as UAT Lead and/ or perform user acceptance testing
  • Create and maintain standards, procedures, and documentation related to area of responsibility
  • Serve as a member and/or chair of steering committee and governance team related to the assigned applications, ensure adherence and compliance with regulatory and security enterprise guidelines, policies and standards
  • Stay abreast of and communicate application impacts through collaboration with vendor, clinical, corporate, and IT stakeholders
  • Contribute to ongoing improvement of departmental and organizational project and portfolio management processes
  • Compile and provide monthly status reports, KPIs and metrics across supported applications
  • Provide coaching, mentoring and feedback to team members
  • Direct supervision of assigned staff including performance reviews, career growth development, timesheet and leave approval, address/ escalate employee issues
  • Other duties as assigned

  • Bachelor's degree in Information Systems, Computer Science, Business or related field
  • 5+ years of relevant experience
  • Knowledge of clinical research and experience in biopharma or CRO is preferred
  • Demonstrated leadership and management skills, including delegating, mentoring, and coaching
  • Demonstrated planning and project management skills in implementing and managing large enterprise-scale solutions
  • Experience leading and managing diverse global teams, especially in a highly matrixed environment
  • Experience managing vendors and managing with executives
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and troubleshooting skills; with the ability to collect, organize, analyze, and disseminate significant amounts of information with attention to detail and accuracy
  • Excellent communication, presentation, interpersonal skills, both written and verbal, with an ability to inform, influence, convince and persuade
  • Ability to operate in fast-paced environment and manage multiple assignments simultaneously in both agile and non-agile environments
  • Skilled in facilitating meetings with multiple stakeholders, including building consensus, motivation, and managing conflict
  • Ability to demonstrate strategic thinking capability, exercise good judgement, make sound decisions, and escalate issues / decision making as appropriate
  • Experience in validation of computerized systems in regulated environment
  • Experience in risk, change and scope management.
