Position Information

HIRING BONUS! New Hires and Returning Staff will receive a hiring bonus of up to $550 (Gross).

The Department of Parks & Recreation (DPR) is seeking multiple temporary Gymnastics Summer Camp Assistants to provide support with camp programs for the youth and instruct campers ages 5-9 years old in beginner-intermediate level gymnastics skills.

Summer camp staff must commit from June 21 to August 13 (core camp dates). Additional weeks from August 16-27 may also be available. Training and planning beginning mid to late May through June, which includes a combination of independent and self-paced online courses with virtual and in-person trainings during weekday evenings and a few Saturdays. All camp staff will be provided training on teaching gymnastics skills and on how to follow current guidance (county specific protocols) related to Covid19 safety.

Job duties:

  • Assisting with the summer camp or program activities and operations;
  • Supervising indoor/outdoor games, physical fitness activities, crafts, water day, snacks, and special visits; and
  • Performing other duties as assigned.
The Ideal candidate will possess:

  • Excellent customer service skills, good conduct, initiative, responsible, and demonstrates integrity;
  • Positive communication skills, including the ability to relate to the public in a professional manner;
  • Ability to work as a team member and flexible when work assignments change at the last minute; and
  • Reliability (showing up to work on time and staying until the assignment is complete, if necessary).

Selection Criteria

Minimum: Must be currently enrolled in High School (between 14-18 years of age).

Desirables: Preference may be given to candidates with experience in one or more of the following:

  • Gymnastics background;
  • Working in a Summer Camp or Recreation Facility;
  • Promoting and performing physical fitness activities; and
  • Working with individuals with disabilities or willingness to.

Special Requirements

Candidates will be required to:

  • Successfully complete a criminal background check.
  • Provide two letters of reference from related work/school experience prior to an offer of employment. Letters of reference may be attached to this application.
  • Provide negative TB results or submit to a TB screening.
  • Attend all required trainings.
  • Some positions require First Aid/CPR certification.
  • Be open to provide personal care as needed to campers (training provided).
