Dewberry is currently seeking an Emergency Management Specialist for our Fairfax, VA office. This position will support the Disaster Recovery Services (DRS) Group with a variety of tasks for local, state, and Federal clients. related to preparedness and operations support: planning, training, research, analysis, and recovery support missions. Related areas of technical focus for this position include but are not limited to: planning, training, and recovery mission.

Responsibilities

  • As needed, be prepared to deploy to disaster locations to support direct housing planning and execution for disaster survivors.
  • Conduct analysis of data for direct housing execution including spreadsheets used in tracking various inputs and outputs from FEMA and LOGHOUSE contractors.
  • Apply knowledge of technical principles related to emergency management to projects.
  • Support strategic, operational and tactical planning process from concept to client acceptance.
  • Support the collection, manipulation, analysis, and reporting of various data to support client requirements.
  • Support the design and development of all-hazards trainings, to include plans of instruction, training visuals, instructor guides, and student manuals.
  • Support the design, conduct, and evaluation of exercises, to include exercise materials, exercise control and evaluation, and after-action reports.
  • Support studies, reports and other technical documentation and guidance documents.
  • Must be able to interpret information from many sources and deliver ab product on firm deadlines.
  • Analyze policies and procedures and make recommendations on policy or process improvement
  • Research subject matter and prepare papers, presentations, charts, talking points, briefings and reports to support deliverable requirements.
  • Work on other related projects within Dewberry to acquire supplementary technical and programmatic knowledge/skills .
  • As necessary, deploy as part of a team to support disaster-specific task orders.


Required Skills & Required Experience

Qualifications:

Bachelor's Degree in Emergency Management, Engineering, Planning, or other related field.

One to three years of progressively responsible experience, which demonstrates:
  • Understanding of all-hazards emergency management;
  • Excellent writing, grammar, and stylistic skills. Significant writing experience required;
  • Strong oral communication and interpersonal skills with ability to participate in productive discussions through various forums;
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, and Excel; and
  • Proficiency in research, analysis, and creative thinking.

Specialized experience directly related to the line of work of the position that has equipped the applicant with the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform the duties of the position successfully:

Understand FEMA's National Incident Management System (NIMS), the Incident Command System (ICS), Presidential Policy Directive 8, the National Response Framework, the National Disaster Recovery Framework, and other relevant federal policies and/or documents, such as FEMA's Stafford Act; and Knowledge of Comprehensive Preparedness Guide (CPG) 101: Developing and Maintaining Emergency Operations Plans
  • Ability to work independently with time management skills, especially the ability to complete high-quality, detail-oriented deliverables on tight timelines amid competing deadlines within a diverse work group.
  • Ability to perform an expanded array of tasks assigned by higher level staff, designed to broaden experience and familiarization with methods, practices, and programs applicable to the department.
  • Some experience with client interactions and task management. No project management or staff management experience required.
  • Ability to exercise initiative, resourcefulness, and tact in obtaining and analyzing information related to projects.
  • Ability to get along with coworkers and superiors.
  • Ability to be self-motivated and function in a team environment.

Work Environment
  • Responsibilities may occasionally require an adjusted work schedule, overtime, and evening/weekend hours in order to meet deadlines.
  • Occasionally, will be required to lift/carry up to 25 lbs.
  • Telephones, faxes, copiers, printers and computers are all used frequently to perform tasks.
  • Work is typically performed within the office and via telework although field/site visits are occasionally required as well as deployment to disaster areas in support of task order work
  • Works under direct supervision of higher-level staff. Work is often reviewed for accuracy by senior level staff.
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain a Public Trust security clearance.


Must have a valid driver's license, good driving record and ability to pass a driving record background check.
