Student Support CoordinatorThe George Mason University Honors College invites applications for the position of Student Support Coordinator. In collaboration with every unit at the university, the Honors College facilitates student access to the most exceptional opportunities for academic achievement, professional development, and public service that the university and the region have to offer.About the Position:This new position has been created to collaborate with the Associate Director of Student Support and Retention to lead the Honors College in the ongoing work of developing effective, collaborative, and sustainable ways of providing all students with the support they need to make the best possible use of the opportunities available to them through the Honors College, the university, and the region.Responsibilities:Provide direct student support through proactive and responsive outreach and intervention plans.Work closely with the Associate Director for Student Support and Retention to design and implement outreach programs and interventions to promote retention among students; specifically focusing on supporting underrepresented and/or first-generation college students;Manage interventions, academic plans, and student success and engagement efforts for students in all academic programs;Provide one-on-one meetings for students on academic probation and students of concern;When appropriate, refer students to partner offices and personnel for academic and personal support; andMonitor the Honors College support referral system for faculty and staff members.Support student success and retention goals through collaboration with faculty, staff, and partners across the university.Collaborate with the Director of Data Analytics and Assessment and the Assistant Director for Programming and Engagement to identify and monitor engagement- and inclusion-based metrics of student success;Research and implement evidence-based practices related to student success and engagement;Train and engage faculty members on topics related to academic support and student success; andServe on college- and university-wide committees.Academically advise undergraduates and participate in orientation and recruitment activities.Academically advise and manage degree evaluations for a caseload of undergraduate Honors College students;Represent the Honors College at the main recruitment events during the academic year (including the fall and spring open house for Mason and the Honors College specific spring semester event); andParticipate in the onboarding and advising of new Honors College students during the Honors College summer Orientation.General duties of Honors College faculty and staff.Demonstrate respect for a diversity of opinions and perspectives;Work with the staff of the Honors College to develop the quality and reputation of all services and programs under its auspices;Attend Honors College staff and committee meetings; andParticipate in ongoing staff and professional development.Required Qualifications:Bachelor's Degree or combination of education and experience is required;Demonstrated experience (typically 3+ years) working in advising or student success, student retention, or transition support programs in higher education;Demonstrated sensitivity to and ability to work with students representing the diverse academic, ethnic, socio‐economic, and cultural backgrounds of the Mason student body including first generation and underrepresented students;Evidence of effective interpersonal, written, and oral communication;Evidence of ability to work independently, as well as in collaboration with multiple stakeholders; andFamiliarity with student information systems, degree audit systems, and education management tools (such as Stellic, Navigate, Banner, and/or parallel systems).Preferred Qualifications:Experience supporting success and retention of students in Honors colleges and programs; andMasters or combination of training and work experience at a level that equates to an advanced degree preferred.
