Job Listing: The City of Bowie is accepting applications for the position of Water Plant Superintendent. The Water Plant Superintendent is responsible for planning, budgeting for, directing and managing all activities of the City’s Water Treatment Plant (WTP). The WTP has the responsibility for the operation and maintenance of the City’s water filtration and treatment plant, water wells, and all water storage facilities. The ideal candidate will have a proven record of success in leading, operating and maintaining a water treatment plant in accordance with regulatory requirements and consistently deliver quality water to customers.
Specific Duties include:
- Supervision of water plant operators; Ensuring proper water filtration and treatment to deliver safe drinking water in accordance with applicable regulations; Conducting and supervising lab testing procedures and preparing reports as required to meet regulatory requirements; Overseeing contracted repairs, maintenance, testing and inspections; Recommend plant modifications and improvements for efficiencies; Ensuring security of the water plant, storage tanks and well sites Manage all staff and activities of the WTP and must maintain a valid State of Maryland Certification for water. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: High School Diploma Five years experience supervising water filtration plant operations Certified MDE Water Sampler or required to obtain this certification within one year of hiring. Class 4, Supervisory Water certification or required to obtain this certification within 1 year of hiring.
Certain combinations of training and experience may be considered in lieu of the above listed qualifications.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
Bachelor’s Degree in Civil or Environmental Engineering
- Five years of administrative management experience Knowledge of Supervisory control and data acquisition (SCADA) and metering principles. Knowledge of plumbing, electrical, and mechanical repairs, use of self-contained breathing apparatus and working with hazardous chemicals. Knowledge of making reagents and operating laboratory equipment.

Salary: $86,000-98,000
