Research Administration AnalystThe George Mason University, Office of Sponsored Programs (OSP), invites qualified applicants to apply for our Research Administration Analyst. George Mason University has a strong institutional commitment to the achievement of excellence and diversity among its faculty and staff, and strongly encourages candidates to apply who will enrich Mason's academic and culturally inclusive environment.About the position:As part of the Office of Sponsored Programs, the Research Administration Analyst serves a critical role in supporting post award research activities at George Mason by facilitating the review and processing of award expenditures, serving as a resource to department and college administrators, and ensuring successful set up of sponsored awards in the University financial system. This position requires a significant emphasis on customer service, financial monitoring and an understanding of federal, state, and University rules and regulations governing sponsored research. This position is not eligible for telework.Responsibilities:Performs specific grant-related post-award functions including expenditure review, labor distribution changes, and budget variance analysis;Tracks the status of transactions received for processing and follows up as needed, provides initial transaction review and prepares documents for final review and approval by manager;Reviews financial expenditures on sponsored awards for accuracy;Provides guidance and serves a resource for department administrators on matters related to financial award administration;Responds promptly to inquiries or requests for assistance as they relate to post award financial management;Performs analysis of issues and determines appropriate resolution;Finalizes new awards and modifications through completion of the budget entry, access requests, and award/modification notifications;Reviews new awards and modifications for accuracy after they are entered in the financial system;Assists in the preparation of materials related to audit inquiries for internal, sponsor, federal or state audits;Performs other related duties incidental to the position.Required Qualifications:Bachelor's degree in business administration, accounting, or related field; or equivalent combination of education and experience;Some (generally two (2)+ years) relevant professional experience in research administration, financial grants management, or related field;Post award experience and knowledge of Uniform Guidance;Knowledge of, and ability to interpret, federal, state, sponsor and University guidelines;Demonstrated effective written, verbal and interpersonal skills;Ability to work collaboratively with other teams throughout the university;Proficient skills in Excel and other Microsoft based software applications, problem solving and analytical skills, and strong attention to detail;Well organized with the ability to manage multiple priorities concurrently.Preferred Qualifications:Experience with Ellucian Banner financial system;Experience in an academic or related research environment;Certified Research Administrator or similar accreditation.Candidates must be:A citizen of the United States;A person who is a lawful permanent resident of the United States (a "Green Card" holder);A person who is a "protected individual" as defined by 8 U.S.C. 1324b(a) (3); orA person who is otherwise able to become generally eligible to receive unclassified technical data pursuant to the International Traffic in Arms Regulations.Mason offers a great benefits package, including retirement, life insurance, supplemental retirement options, flexible reimbursement accounts, health benefits and much more!
