**A RESUME AND COVER LETTER ARE REQUIRED TO APPLY FOR THIS POSITION** Maryland Legal Aid (MLA) announces an immediate opening for a full-time Supervising Attorney position in the Anne Arundel/Howard Office located in Annapolis, Maryland. Successful candidates will demonstrate an ability to handle a broad range of duties in a timely manner. Responsibilities: Coordinate and supervise assignment of cases according to Maryland Legal Aid's case acceptance guidelines; Conduct case reviews and performance appraisals; Build and maintain a cohesive, supportive team that works well together; Guide the professional development of staff including training on unfamiliar areas of law, co-counseling cases, and reviewing pleadings; Provide zealous, effective, and competent legal assistance to low-income clients through an active caseload commensurate with a supervisor's expertise; Participate in appropriate task forces and work groups to identify systemic barriers, develop strategies to address these barriers and monitor outcomes; Engage the community through outreach and education; Cultivate relationships with the judiciary, private bar and other outside organizations; Perform all administrative functions in accordance with Maryland Legal Aid policies and procedures, including, but not limited to, reviewing staff timekeeping, leave requests, travel reimbursements, check requests, and file closures; Assist the Chief Attorney in carrying out Maryland Legal Aid's strategic plan, which includes providing high-quality legal services to low-income Marylanders, advocating for justice, and adding maximum positive value to all who request legal assistance. Requirements: Admitted to practice in the State of Maryland, or admitted in another jurisdiction and eligible for admission in the State of Maryland with at least three or more years of legal experience. Out-of-State attorneys must be able and available to take next scheduled bar exam following date of employment. Strong legal writing, analytical and advocacy skills; Desired: Experience supervising attorneys, paralegals and administrative staff; Demonstrated leadership, analytical, organizational, interpersonal, project management, and communication/presentation skills; Team player, zealous and compassionate advocate; Ability to work independently, meet deadlines, and produce a high-quality work product.
