WHAT YOU'LL BE DOING DAY TO DAY

This position involves a multi-grade career ladder. The major duties listed below represent the level of GS-12. At the GS-9 and 11 grade levels, you will perform assignments of a more limited scope and with less independence. Promotion is at the discretion of the supervisor and is contingent upon satisfactory performance, availability of higher level work, and availability of funds.

As an Emergency Management Specialist, you will use your knowledge of and experience with the Assistant Secretary for Preparedness and Response to optimize business results and customer experience by:

Serving as an Emergency Management Specialist with responsibilities for developing and implementing programs necessary for execution of all agency activities Acting as a "Assistant Senior Watch Officer" (GS-12) or "Watch Officer" (GS9/11) on a 24/7 Watch team within HHS's Emergency Operations Center communicating with local, state, federal and international partners and emergency responders.

Ensuring public health and medical threat and Incident information is properly acquired, displayed, and archived.

Coordinating the exchange information and develop partnerships with communities of interest including intra and interagency operations centers.

WHAT WE ARE LOOKING FOR
Minimum Qualifications:

For GS-9 Grade Level:


A. Must have one year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-07 grade level in the Federal service that included performing all or at least two of the following: 1) Assisting in in providing emergency management support 2) Assisting in identifying, analyzing, and making recommendations to resolve conventional problems and situations; and 3) applying basic principles, concepts and methodology of public health and medical emergencies with assist or supervision.

OR

B. Must have a master's or equivalent graduate degree or 2 full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to such a degree in any field of study or LL.B or J.D., if related from an accredited college and/or university. One year of full-time graduate education is considered to be the number of credit hours that the school attended has determined to represent 1 year of full-time study. If that information cannot be obtained from the school, 18 semester hours or 27 quarter hours will satisfy the one year of full-time study requirement.

OR

C. Must have a combination of experience as described in "A" above and education as described in "B" above.

For GS-11 Grade Level:

A. Must have at least one year of specialized experience, equivalent to the GS-09 grade level in the Federal service that includes performing all of the following : 1) Providing emergency management support; 2) Identifying, analyzing, and making recommendations to resolve conventional problems and situations; and 3) Applying principles, concepts and methodology of public health and medical emergencies.

OR

B. Must have a Ph.D. or equivalent doctoral degree or 3 full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to such a degree in any field of study from an accredited college and/or university. One year of full-time graduate education is considered to be the number of credit hours that the school attended has determined to represent 1 year of full-time study. If that information cannot be obtained from the school, 18 semester hours or 27 quarter hours will satisfy the one year of full-time study requirement.

OR

C. Must have a combination of experience as described in "A" above and education as described in "B" above.

For GS-12 Grade Level:

Must have at least one year of specialized experience, equivalent to the GS-11 grade level in the Federal service that includes performing all or at least two of the following: 1) Providing emergency management support independently and with little to no supervision 2) Identifying, analyzing, and making recommendations to resolve complex problems and situations; and 3) applying advanced and complex principles, concepts and methodology of public health and medical emergencies.
