We are also proud to be a unionized employer, with two labor unions representing more than half of our employees.Scope: We are seeking a summer intern for 2022 to work directly with the Policy, Advocacy and Legal Department (PAL) leadership. This position will assist in advancing PAL's short and long-term goals, including carrying out research and supporting policies and projects prioritized by PAL leadership. An intern will help draft communications, perform outreach, and help to plan events (as needed). Lastly, they will perform special projects as assigned.Job activities include but are not limited to:Conduct research on various environmental state and federal policies.Assists in the planning of PAL meetings and events.Attends special events in Washington DC such as demonstrations, rallies and coalition events.Assists with the Federal Policy Team, Labor Team, Democracy Team and State Lobbying Team by conducting research, developing materials, taking notes at meetings and helping with special projects.Performs special projects and miscellaneous duties as assigned.The successful candidate must have the following skills and experience:Interpersonal skills. Exhibits emotional intelligence, ability to engage in courageous conversations, especially around equity and inclusion, ability to build and maintain transformational relationships.Communication skills. Excellent written and oral communications skills. Experience developing PowerPoint presentations, one-pagers, fact-sheets, etc.Work Ethics and Dependability. Ability to set and honor deadlines, follow through on commitments, and be responsive to a variety of communications styles. Flexible to meet the needs of an ever-changing landscape.Equity Analysis and Practice. Demonstrated commitment to advancing equity, inclusion, justice and anti-oppression values. You are aware of your group identities and how they have shaped your life and experiences at work. You have an analysis of how racism and other forms of oppression in society impact relationships, systems and culture. You bring experience and skills for working effectively with colleagues across group identities and position/role.The strongest candidates will also demonstrate the following experience, skills and competencies:Research experiencePolicy and advocacy experienceKnowledge of justice and environmental/conservation movements.Compensation and BenefitsThe salary range for this position is $15 per hour; 37.5 hours per week for three to four months.This is a category 99, non-exempt, non-represented, temporary position.Sierra Club is a 501(c)(4) non-profit organization.
