Assistant Coach, SoftballThe George Mason University, Intercollegiate Athletic Department, a NCAA Division I institution and member of the Atlantic 10 Conference, is seeking qualified applicants for an Assistant Softball Coach. This is a full-time, 12-month administrative professional faculty position. George Mason University has a strong institutional commitment to the achievement of excellence and diversity among its faculty and staff, and strongly encourages candidates to apply who will enrich Mason's academic and culturally inclusive environment.About the Position:The Assistant Softball Coach reports to the Head Softball Coach and is responsible for assisting in carrying out all activities necessary to accomplish the objectives of the sport within the guidelines of the NCAA, Atlantic 10 Conference (A-10), and the University.Responsibilities:Assist Head Coach:Recruit and retain highly skilled student athletes for the softball team;Provide instruction to softball student athletes on pitching fundamentals, details and strategies of softball;Develop game strategies;Monitor student athlete's academic progress;Maintain softball field and practice areas;Market and promote the softball program;Utilize various technologies (i.e., high speed video, 643 Charts, Pocket Radar and Blast Motion), analyze and apply findings; andAdhere to the NCAA, A-10 and University governing policies and procedures.NEW Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:Effectively teach pitching hitting fundamentals, and strategies of softball during preparation and practice sessions;Motivate individuals and the team successfully;Travel and recruit student athletes;Scout opponents;Learn and comply with all policies and regulations of the University, TBR, OVC and NCAA;Communicate effectively and appropriately;Maintain confidentiality of records and information;Interact in an effective and appropriate manner with diverse populations, the University community and the public; andHandle multiple tasks simultaneously.Physical Requirements:Light Work; exerting up to 20 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 10 pounds of force frequently, and/or a negligible amount of force constantly to move objects.Required Qualifications:Bachelor's degree or equivalent combination of education and experience;Some coaching experience (generally 2-3 years) at the college, university or professional level;A proven record of integrity, high principles and demonstrated skill in developing and motivating student athletes academically and athletically; andMust currently possess an appropriate, active, valid motor vehicle operator's license that meets all of GMU's requirements for operating state vehicles and equipment under Mason's Vehicle Use Policy 1411 https://universitypolicy.gmu.edu/policies/vehicle-use/.
