Job Announcement

Located at the Shelter Care Program (10670 Page Ave, Fairfax VA) , provides oversight in a temporary care, community based residential group home for males and female court clients between the ages of 11-17. The primary goal is to ensure the health and physical well-being of residents by providing constant supervision and structured activities. Duties include but are not limited to:

  • Conducts intakes, assesses clients’ immediate risks and needs levels, leads individual counseling sessions, facilitates onsite educational and recreational activities and completes discharge paperwork.
  • Implements and monitors behavioral management program aimed at helping residents acknowledge behaviors contributing to their court involvement and assisting with building appropriate skills to avoid further court involvement.
  • Manages and dispenses prescription and non-prescription medication according to state regulatory requirements.
  • Conducts room inspections, launders residents’ uniforms and linens. Completes data entry in RSIS program.
  • Transports residents to court on an as-needed basis; operates e a 15-passenger van.
Schedule: Shifts include day/evening, weekend and holidays. Shifts are typically 7 a.m. - 5 .pm., 10 a.m. - 8 p.m. and 1 p.m. - 11 p.m.; as well as a mandatory 2 hour staff meeting every other Wednesday morning.

Employment Standards

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Any combination of education, experience, and training equivalent to the following:(Click on the aforementioned link to learn how Fairfax County interprets equivalencies for “Any combination, experience, and training equivalent to”)Graduation from an accredited four-year college or university with a degree in social/behavioral sciences, law enforcement, or education.
CERTIFICATES AND LICENSES REQUIRED:
  • Valid driver's license.
  • The following certifications must be obtained within a specified time frame after appointment and recertification annually thereafter:
  • Handle With Care required within 6 months
  • Medication Management required within 6 months
  • CPR/First Aid required within 30 days

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Bachelor’s degree in a related field.
  • Experience working with court involved adolescents in a residential setting.
  • Ability to work with complex behavioral problems and respond to crisis situations.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite application (i.e., MS Word, Excel and Outlook).
  • Ability to work a varied schedule consisting of days, evenings, weekends, and holidays.

NECESSARY SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:
  • All newly hired employees are required to be fully vaccinated against COVID-19 (two weeks after the last required dose) as a condition of employment or obtain approval of a medical or religious exemption prior to their start date. Proof of an exemption or vaccination status will be required during the pre-employment onboarding process. New employees who obtain an exemption from the vaccine mandate for medical or sincerely held religious beliefs may be subject to a weekly testing requirement. Vaccinated employees and employees with a medical or religious exemption will complete the attestation online on their first day of employment or shortly thereafter.
  • The appointee to the position must satisfactorily complete a criminal background check, Child Protective Services Registry check, Sanction Screening, driving record check, pre-employment medical evaluation, and tuberculosis test.
  • This position is considered "essential personnel" and will be required to report to work during times designated countywide as approved for unscheduled leave regardless of the emergency situation (i.e., weather, transportation, other disaster).


PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
Must be able to supervise and participate in educational and recreational activities with adolescents. Duties require the ability to physically restrain acting out residents. Visual and auditory acuity. All duties performed with or without reasonable accommodations.
