Serves as the Branch Chief of the Public Facilities and Plan Development Branch in the Planning Division. Supervises a team of planners assigned to conduct policy and land use studies, Comprehensive Plan amendments, the review of public facility applications, and the division’s coordination efforts for the county’s Capital Improvement Program. Coordinates with other county agencies, interest groups and other jurisdictions; represents county interests on working committees (Board of Supervisors, Planning Commission, and ad hoc), and attends meetings and makes formal presentations before the Planning Commission and Board of Supervisors and other appointed bodies and community groups. Prepares and reviews a variety of written materials for publication including staff memos and reports and oversees the community outreach efforts for the branch. Also serves as a member of the Planning Division’s management team and is responsible for hiring and training of staff within the branch.

Employment Standards

Graduation from an accredited four-year college or university in a planning related field; plus seven years of experience in a planning-related field including two years increasingly responsible experience with leading teams, project management and/or staff management.

The appointee to this position will be required to complete a criminal background check to the satisfaction of the employer.

All newly hired employees are required to be fully vaccinated against COVID-19 (two weeks after the last required dose) as a condition of employment or obtain approval of a medical or religious exemption prior to their start date. Proof of an exemption or vaccination status will be required during the pre-employment onboarding process. Demonstrated project management and leadership ability in long-range planning and/or public facilities planning in the public sector. Experience should include several years in long-range planning and/or public facilities planning and should include demonstrated substantial experience working with elected and appointed officials, community task forces and groups, and members of the public. Experience managing special planning studies and initiatives. Ability to coordinate with multiple stakeholder groups. Strong negotiation skills. Excellent written and oral communication skills. Ability to supervise staff, make assignments, and write, review, and edit technical staff reports and memos. Master's degree in planning or closely related field.

Position is primarily sedentary. However, the employee may be required to do some walking, standing, bending and carrying of items less than 15 pounds in weight. Work requires the ability to make site visits, and attend evening and occasional weekend meetings. All duties performed with or without reasonable accommodations.
