Job Announcement

Supports staff for Operations division. Prepares and maintains reports and presentations regarding a variety of studies and analyses relevant to solid waste management. Utilizes data management systems to support billing, budget, and management decisions. Monitors and tracks critical operations contracts to ensure work is performed per contract and vendors are paid accordingly. Manages Workforce Manager (WFM) data tracking system. Supports implementation of the agreement with Covanta Fairfax. Provides customer service functions to both internal and external customers. Conducts analyses of solid waste programs and performs studies relevant for the purpose of both short-term and long-term solid waste management planning. Ensures facility literature and County website are updated and accurate. Supports staff at county facilities. Engages in safe working practices and complies with Solid Waste safety programs and guidelines. Complies with the DPWES Safety Competencies. Performs related duties as required.

Note: The assigned functional areas for this position are communication and data management.

Employment Standards

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Any combination of education, experience, and training equivalent to the following:

Graduation from an accredited four-year college or university with a bachelor's degree in the field related to the assigned functional area.

CERTIFICATES AND LICENSES REQUIRED:
Valid driver's license.

BRIDGE CLASS EMPLOYMENT STANDARDS
Four years of increasingly complex technical experience in the assigned functional area, comparable to experience at the Admin Assistant IV, or higher, level. This class can serve as a bridge class enabling individuals who do not meet the educational or professional experience standards listed above to qualify for this class by possessing four years of increasingly complex technical experience in the assigned functional area, comparable to experience at the Admin Assistant IV, or higher, level. The purpose of this bridge class is to promote upward mobility within the Fairfax County workforce. However persons qualifying for this class on the basis of their technical experience may not substitute this technical experience for education, or for professional experience, in order to qualify for other employment opportunities.

NECESSARY SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:
The appointee to this position will be required to complete a criminal background and driving record check to the satisfaction of the employer.

All newly hired employees are required to be fully vaccinated against COVID-19 (two weeks after the last required dose) as a condition of employment or obtain approval of a medical or religious exemption prior to their start date. Proof of an exemption or vaccination status will be required during the pre-employment onboarding process. New employees who obtain an exemption from the vaccine mandate for medical or sincerely held religious beliefs may be subject to a weekly testing requirement. Vaccinated employees and employees with a medical or religious exemption will complete the attestation online on their first day of employment or shortly thereafter.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
  • 2+ years analyzing data;
  • Advanced skill level in Excel, experience with pivot tables;
  • 1+ years of experience with data presentations using power point/graphics;
  • 2+ years of experience in solid waste or related environmental/transportation industry;
  • Website/social media experience validating content;
  • Problem solving/detailed oriented.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
Ability to stand, stoop, bend, stretch, walk, climb, sit, kneel, crouch, reach, crawl, lift and handle materials with manual dexterity. Ability to lift up to 25 pounds. Ability to input, access, and retrieve information from a computer. Ability to perform repetitive hand, arm, wrist, and shoulder movements. Ability to walk, negotiate or traverse property sites that may be undergoing construction or having terrain that is not level. Work requires performing tasks in an environment in which raw waste is present. All duties performed with or without reasonable accommodations.
