Job Description

The Washington Post is hiring a breaking-news reporter in Features to write about arts, entertainment, lifestyle and culture.

This reporter will work closely with the breaking-news editor in Features and the pop culture and arts teams to make sure The Post offers readers timely stories on the most interesting and newsworthy topics of the day in culture. Sometimes this will mean jumping on a story about a legal development in a court case or a celebrity caught in a firestorm over controversial statements. Other times this writer will take ownership of stories that extend beyond a 24-hour news cycle. Surprising stories that lend themselves to original reporting will always be a priority.

The ideal candidate will be an eager and curious reporter with news writing experience and the ability to file clean and timely copy, as well as an interest in arts and culture, from Broadway to Netflix, podcasts to publishing. We are especially interested in visual storytelling and alternative story formats in our coverage and in ramping up our capacity to cover cultural news moments in live updating files.

This position is based in our Washington newsroom. The reporter will work Monday through Friday, from 1 to 9 p.m.
