Position Information

The Arlington Economic Development (AED) Department is seeking a dynamic and innovative Destination Sales Manager for the Arlington Convention and Visitors Service (ACVS) division. The official Destination Marketing Organization (DMO) for Arlington and ACVS, markets Arlington County as a premier destination for leisure and business travel, meetings, conventions, and groups, as the best place to stay, shop, dine and be entertained when visiting the Washington, D.C. area. Working as a highly collaborative team, ACVS measures success through increased Arlington hotel occupancy and visitor spending, resulting in related guest-tax revenues that benefit the residents and businesses of Arlington County .

Reporting to the Director of Sales, the Destination Sales Manager will promote and sell Arlington to Social, Military, Education, Religious and Fraternal (SMERF), Government, Association, and Corporate markets. The Destination Sales Manager will achieve annual lead and room-night sales goals, promote ACVS's value-added products and services to meeting/group planners and tour/receptive operators, help drive increased visitor spending, length of stay, and communicate Arlington branding/messaging to prospects.

Specific duties:
  • Researching, recommending, planning, and attending industry trade or networking events and sales missions;
  • Developing strong relationships with stakeholders, including meeting/group planners, tour/receptive operators, hotel leadership, sales teams, tourism membership organizations, and County team members;
  • Managing trade-event logistics and communicating related marketing needs to the ACVS Marketing Manager (print and/or online collateral, promotional items, advertisements, etc.);
  • Conducting presentations and familiarization or site visits for meeting planners, tour/receptive operators, hotel partners and other clients;
  • Assisting with ACVS product promotions, sweepstakes, and other marketing activities;
  • Managing information in the Salesforce customer relationship management (CRM) system, including tracking customer interactions, generating performance reports, and identifying new Salesforce technical requirements; and
  • Performing other duties as assigned.

The ideal candidate will possess:

  • Hospitality/destination sales experience with the SMERF, Government, Corporate and Association markets;
  • Familiarity with Arlington and the national capital region; and
  • Excellent collaboration, communication, time management, and organization skills, with the ability to multi-task and be flexible when priorities change.

Selection Criteria

Minimum:

  • Bachelor's Degree in tourism, business administration, marketing, or related field;
  • Considerable experience in the hospitality industry, tourism, receptive operations, hotel sales, destination sales, meeting planning, group tour planning, corporate travel business development, and/or account management.
Substitution: Additional qualifying experience may be substituted for the educational requirement on a year-for-year basis.

Desirables: Preference may be given to candidates with experience in one or more of the following:

  • Customer Relationship Management (CRM) software (such as Salesforce and CVENT);
  • Travel and tourism marketing in Arlington and/or throughout the national capital region; and/or
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office software (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
