Job Description

The Washington Post is seeking an investigations editor to oversee a team of reporters responsible for delivering original, ambitious and penetrating journalism that reveals how money and technology shape our world and influence our government.

We are seeking an experienced, creative leader with a demonstrated ability to deliver revelatory journalism that spotlights the actions of people, corporations and other institutions that often try to evade scrutiny. In addition to deeper projects, the team will be expected to deliver quick-turn accountability and explanatory stories scrutinizing the rich and the powerful, corporate interests and the tech industry's shifting strategies.

This team often focuses on the intersection of Washington and industry, amplifying the distinctive work already being produced by Post beat reporters on issues ranging from regulatory oversight to climate change to consumer protection. A collaborative spirit is essential, as the investigations editor will coordinate closely with assignment editors across the Technology and Business staff, as well as a visual enterprise editor dedicated to telling stories in visually compelling ways. Depending on the target, this editor also will work together with teams across the newsroom. The ideal candidate will have experience as an editor overseeing high-impact accountability coverage, preferably with a focus on the major corporations and Big Tech. Experience leading investigative teams is preferred.

This position is based in our Washington newsroom.

The Post strives to provide its readers with high-quality, trustworthy news and information while constantly innovating. That mission is best served by a diverse, multi-generational workforce with varied life experiences and perspectives. All cultures and backgrounds are welcomed.

Candidates should upload a résumé and cover letter to our jobs portal. All application materials can be uploaded to the same field. Applications will be reviewed on a rolling basis until the position is filled, but those received by 06/06/2022 will be prioritized. Your cover letter should be addressed to Business Editor Lori Montgomery and Deputy Business Editor Damian Paletta.
