Your Role …

 

The American Immigration Council seeks a highly motivated, impact-driven, flexible individual for its legal department. The Legal Coordinator’s primary responsibilities are to provide litigation and administrative support to the legal department. The Legal Coordinator also plans national litigation meetings, updates content on the Council’s website, participates in internal Council task forces, and develops policies and protocols designed to facilitate the work of the legal department.

Essential Job Functions. . .

 

  • Provides litigation support by 1. formats, copies, and submits legal documents for filing with federal courts and/or immigration agencies 2. reviews court rules 3. tracks pending cases and calendars court deadlines 4. maintains files with court filings and 5. Corresponds with clients to gather information for litigation. Assists with all aspects of helping legal team staff gain admission to federal courts and filing paperwork to appear in those courts. Interfaces with immigration lawyers, advocates, clients, individuals seeking legal advice or representation, and other stakeholders. Supports the Council’s transparency work, including by tracking, organizing, and reviewing government records and leading the drafting of This Month in Government Transparency, a monthly email to constituents. Spearheads monitoring and reviewing data for a large class action lawsuit.  Updates legal sections of website and coordinates with other legal team members to provide updates to the website. Schedules and plans internal and external meetings and events. Leads planning of large conferences, including managing logistics, invitees, necessary technology, and other tasks as needed.   Drafts correspondence, processes expense reports, plans travel for team attorneys, and performs administrative/clerical tasks as needed. Develops and implements processes to ensure communication among legal staff is streamlined and effective. Monitors the team’s Clearinghouse inbox, an inbox where attorneys request technical assistance from legal staff. Monitors and records legal team activities in preparation for board reports and reports to funders. Serves as the point person for organizing and updating collaborative platforms for saving and sharing legal team documents. Coordinates recruitment of legal interns. Performs other related duties and tasks, as assigned.

Requirements

 

  • Bachelor’s degree required. Some related work and/or internship experience is desired.  Spanish fluency is strongly preferred.  Candidates should reside in the Washington, DC Metropolitan area.
