Job Summary The Accounting Manager position is a manager-level role and the person in this position will be responsible for providing support to the finance department by managing the servicing division and working closely with the Servicing Controller. The position will review daily journal entry postings, review cash and general ledger reconciliations as well as the monthly close related accounting tasks. The month end close related responsibilities includes but is not limited to reviewing Stats entries, allocation entries, account reconciliations and the related accruals. This person will be responsible for the general accounting functions including preparing, analysis and verification of accounting records to ensure accuracy and completeness. Lastly, this person will support the Servicing Division Controller on servicing related projects, gain an understanding of loan accounting transactions in MSP and build necessary reports and analytics. Essential Duties and Responsibilities Serves as a point of contact between the Finance department and the mortgage servicing department which includes reconciling daily reports and assisting/advising financial analysts who prepare daily journal entries. Assists in leading the month end closing process which includes owning several higher level processes (booking entries and reconciling accounts that could include): Allowances, Servicing Allocations, MSR Amortization, EBO analysis, and accruals. Analyzes balance sheet accounts to determine allowance and impairments as necessary. Participates in creating accounting policy memos and helps to standardize policies and procedures within the department. Supports financial reporting process for the Finance department including compiling the reports, collaborating with the Servicing Controller to communicate results to business leaders, initiating internal accounting monthly results meeting, and understanding budget to actuals and variances in month to month results. Manages direct reports including assignment of work, developing goals and performance metrics, conducting performance reviews as well as coaching and counseling. Performs other duties and Ad hoc projects as assigned. Position Requirements Education Bachelors degree in Accounting or Finance Experience Mortgage industry expertise required 10 years of accounting experience required (preferably with Big 4 Accounting Firm or manager level experience) Functional/Technical Skills Ability to motivate people, instill accountability and achieve results. Ability to work independently and communicate effectively with various internal and external operations team members in multiple locations. Must have attention to detail, regardless of volume of activity and must have interest in identifying unusual items, researching them, and obtaining resolution. Highly motivated and energetic who is eager to learn and has interest in identifying unusual items, researching them, and obtaining resolution. Ability to multi-task and prioritize open issues and takes initiative to go above and beyond to resolve issues Displays a sense of urgency in response to business needs in a demanding environment. Demonstrated strong interpersonal skills. Ability to interact effectively with external and internal clients across departments and locations. Strong problem-solving skills Exposure to Information Technology and/or Facilities. Ability to work independently with minimal direction. Proficiency with MS Office Software. Environmental/Physical Demands Standard office environment unless otherwise stated. Some travel may be required.
