Executive Director of Student Health Services The George Mason University, Student Health Services department invites applications for the Executive Director of Student Health Services position. SHS provides primary care services and health promotion to eligible students at Mason, including but not limited to, initial and follow up assessment, history taking, physical exam of patients, utilization of differential diagnosis, appropriate interventions, consultations and referrals as indicated, and basic emergency treatment and stabilization. Staff provide services to faculty, staff, and visitors on an as needed basis. About the Position:The Executive Director of Student Health Services will provide overall direction, leadership, management, and strategic vision to SHS, to include the delivery and assurance of the quality of clinical care, and the promotion of health and well-being to the student population. The Executive Director reports directly to the Associate Dean and Chief Mental Health Officer. The Executive Director has responsibility for the overall direction of student health services staff. The Executive Director together with Associate Administrative Director, Associate Medical Director, Associate Nursing Director, and Associate Director of Behavioral Health, are responsible for the development, implementation and monitoring of all performance improvement programs, policies and procedures and maintaining a high degree of quality patient care services. The Executive Director serves as a medical advisor and resource to university leadership and the campus community on matters related to student health and well-being.Responsibilities:Establishes, communicates and maintains a departmental vision that reflects institutional and divisional goals and priorities and appropriate professional standards;Develops and oversees strategic plan for SHS, including goals and objectives, outcomes and identification of resource needs;Provides leadership for the recruitment and development of a skilled, diverse workforce in SHS, capable of meeting the needs of a diverse student population. Values and promotes inclusion and equity in the provision of health and well-being services;Oversees medical and administrative personnel activities through supervision of associate directors;In collaboration with the SHS leadership team, plans and implements the SHS budget, facilitating efficiency and cost containment, as well as meeting the needs of Mason students;Establishes an environment of equity, inclusion, civility, mentoring, teamwork, and well-being within SHS, encouraging engagement and collaboration across SHS, within University Life, and with other units across the University;Leads the SHS leadership and executive committees;Ensures SHS operational effectiveness and compliance with accreditation standards;Oversees a program of peer review and quality assurance to maintain excellent patient care;Serves on university committees as deemed necessary by the Associate Dean and Chief Mental Health Officer;Provides direct medical services to students when needed as well as clinical consultation to SHS providers during business hours and on a weekend call schedule. Fully documents patient services, communications, and referrals in the SHS Electronic Medical Record;In collaboration with Associate Medical Director, interprets standards of health care, within parameters set by medical consensus, Centers for Disease Control, state and federal laws, ethical guidelines, and licensing requirements; implements standards to maintain high quality health care;Maintains effective and cooperative working relationships with community health and public health resources and agencies to ensure high quality health services for students;Serves as a resource and medical advisor to University administration and University Life leadership regarding matters of student health; participates in safety planning, and provides leadership around student emergencies and communicable disease control; andProvides consultation and guidance to faculty and staff regarding student health matters as needed.Required Qualifications:Degree from an accredited medical school (Medical Doctor or Doctor of Osteopathy) and board certified in a primary care field. Family Practice, Internal Medicine or Adolescent Medicine;Licensed to practice medicine in the commonwealth of Virginia, or license-eligible;DEA registration licensure;Considerable (generally five (5)+ years) primary care experience, including with young adult/college-age patients;Demonstrated leadership and management experience in primary healthcare;Prior experience working in college student health settings or previous collaborative experience with an and understanding of college health missions and programs;Experience working with students from a wide range of abilities, backgrounds and experiences. Experience with public health and community health; andProven ability to conceptualize, develop and implement large complex projects. Excellent verbal and written communication skills.Preferred Qualifications:Experience with fiscal/budgetary oversight;Experience providing leadership to a student health center;Demonstrated ability to gather data and analyze reports to make data-based decisions;Experience working with a multidisciplinary team that includes behavioral health services;Demonstrated participation in programs designed to promote diversity, equity, and inclusion; andExperience with collaboration with a medical school, including care of medical students and occupational health.
