Public Safety will provide guidance in a professional demeanor to bring all relevant situations to a resolution. They will respond to all emergencies, as well as assist in the de-escalation of conflicts on the Winterthur campus. As the first interaction a guest has with a Winterthur employee is often a member of the Public Safety Department, it is important that they provide a warm and welcoming demeanor to guests, visitors, and suppliers.Responsibilities1. Respond to and investigate any type of incident involving the safety of staff, guests, assets, or property2. Provide first aid and/or CPR in the event of a medical emergency and provide guidance and physical assistance in the event of an emergency evacuation. Follow existing emergency procedures for evacuations due to any fire, flood emergency, or sudden and severe weather conditions that may arise3. Exhibit strong customer service skills during any situation, including responding to inquiries from guests, visitors, and suppliers4. Maintain vigilance for and take proactive steps to correct potentially hazardous situations5. Ensure compliance with all policies and procedures governing people, vehicles, and property by all persons on Winterthur property6. Monitor the security of Winterthur via computerized security systems7. Galleriesmonitor 1st and 2nd floor Galleries and respond to emergencies that arise8. Motor Patrolpatrol Winterthur grounds and required buildings and respond to emergencies that arise, including assisting in the evacuation of Museum, Gallery, and Wing9. Main Gatescreen entry when not open to the public; greet and direct first time guests to Visitor Center; greet outside contractors and ensure proper direction or escort to destination; answer incoming calls and provide assistance as necessary10. MuseumSecure exterior doors as needed, respond to medical emergencies; respond, investigate, and complete written reports on injured guests and employees. Evening & Nightwalk Museum Wing, Gallery, and Research Building to monitor exterior doors and check for safety issuesCompensation: Starting at $15.25/hr. Room for advancement, and bonuses available for those with EMT certification and/or fire department training.JOB REQUIREMENTSMinimum Experience: High school diploma or equivalent with some customer service, safety, or law enforcement experience, or the ability to learn public safety duties quicklyPreferred Experience: High school diploma or equivalent, first aid certification, and 1+ years experience in a public safety-related fieldKnowledge/Skills1. Valid drivers license with no conviction for driving under the influence of drugs/alcohol within 3 years of application. Certified copy is to be provided by applicant upon request2. No convictions for theft or sexually related offenses3. The ability to talk to people in a friendly manner that gets results4. A "team" orientation and willingness to collaborate5. Flexible work days/hours and ability to work some overtime, on occasion with little notice6. This position requires clear thinking during any situation that may arise with a calm and professional demeanor7. Proficient oral and written communication skills8. CPR/First Aid certification is preferred. Without prior certification, must be able to pass a written and practical test after attending a training course as designated by Winterthur9. Basic computer skills, including word processing, accessing and managing a Winterthur provided e-mail account, and navigating the internet10. Ability to utilize computerized security and office systems after trainingEssential Functions1. Must be able to work within the confines of the Museum or other Collection areas that require tight security and attention to detail2. Must enjoy dealing with the public in a cultural property setting3. Must be capable of performing CPR /First Aid after training4. Must be able to climb multiple stairs; at least 9 floors5. Must be able to walk or stand for extended periods of time; potentially 8 hours or more6. Must be able to sit in and operate a SUV or Pickup type vehicle for an 8-hour shift7.
