Duties

The USCP Bus Program is assigned to the Command and Coordination Bureau, Command Division, within the Command Center. This vacancy for the position of Bus Driver is open to USCP officers that meet all eligibility factors. This is a collateral duty to an employee's current assignment and will not result in a permanent transfer to the Command Center. Short notice may be made and may result in additional duty outside of an employee's regular work schedule.Duties:USCP Bus Drivers will be required to safely transport members of the Department, Members of Congress, congressional staff members, and designated individuals as assigned.In addition to driving assignments, Bus Drivers are responsible for transporting USCP buses to and from the USCP vehicle maintenance facility. Bus Drivers will also be responsible for conducting pre-trip vehicle inspections, maintaining a trip log for each transport, and communicating with the Bus Program Coordinator and various department officials.Individuals selected for Bus Driver training will be required to pass a written examination for a Commercial Driver License (CDL) learner's permit administered in the applicant's state of residence. Selected individuals must receive and pass a medical certification physical prior to attending an initial two (2) week (80 hour) Commercial Driver's License Certification Course to include bi-annual in-service training. Driving assignments are determined by submitted requests and are filled according to Department needs. Drivers will be required to operate several types of large vehicles under various conditions and perform other duties as assigned.The results of this vacancy announcement selection process will be used to fill positions within the Command and Coordination Bureau, Command Division. More than one selection may be made from this vacancy announcement. The selection list for this vacancy announcement will be active for a period of 24 months from the date of the approved selection memorandum.Travel RequiredOccasional travelThere will be some travel with this position.

Must be a current USCP Officer below the rank of Sergeant and attained the rank of Private First Class by the closing date of this announcement.

Must have successfully completed your probationary period by the closing date of this announcement.

Must possess and maintain a valid driver's license with no points.

Must obtain a Commercial Driver's License (CDL) and pass a U.S. Department of Transportation mandated physical exam.

Must successfully complete all required driver's training and examinations administered through the U.S. Capitol Police and the U.S. Department of Transportation.

Must successfully complete a one-year probationary driving period with no at fault or preventable accidents in accordance with the Department's Damage to Fleet Vehicle matrix.

Must be in the Uniformed Services Bureau (USB).

Qualifications

1. Must be a USCP Officer below the rank of Sergeant; have successfully completed your probationary period by the closing date of this announcement; and attained the rank of Private with Training by the closing date of this announcement.2. Must possess and maintain a valid driver's license. License status and driving record will be checked as a part of the application process.3. Must not be in restricted leave status as of the closing date of this announcement.4. Must be in a full and unrestricted duty status by the close of the vacancy announcement5. Must be in a full and unrestricted duty status to attend, participate, and successfully complete all required training courses related to this position as of the date of selection.6. Must be available to work flexible hours, rotating shifts and possible midnight assignments.7. Must be able to travel on commercial, military and private airplanes, boats, helicopters, trains, buses, and automobiles.

All applicants must meet the following eligibility factors in order to be considered for the position of Bus Driver: 1. Must be a United States Capitol Police Officer below the rank of Sergeant and attained the rank of Private First Class or Technician by the closing date of this announcement. 2. Must not be in restricted leave status as of the selection date. 3. Must be in full and unrestricted duty status as of the selection date unless otherwise authorized by law (e.g., performance of duty injury, Family Medical Leave Act (FMLA), or Uniformed Services Employment and Reemployment Rights Act (USERRA)). 4. Must be available to work flexible and/or additional hours on short notice. 5. Must possess and maintain a valid driver's license with no points. A records check will be conducted. 6. Must be able to obtain and maintain a government issued travel card. 7. Must be able to pass a CDL medical certification physical examination administered by INOVA Health that complies with the standards set by the U.S. Department of Transportation. 8. Must pass a written examination for a CDL learner's permit administered by the applicant's state of residence. Class B permit with a Passenger and Air Brake endorsement will be required prior to the start of training. Class B permit endorsement cost will be reimbursed to the employee upon the completion of training. 9. Must have an average knowledge of the geography of the National Capital Region. 10. Must be in the Uniformed Services Bureau (USB). Applications and supporting documentation must be received by the closing date of the announcement to receive consideration. RETENTION CRITERIA: Must maintain a valid driver's license with no points. Must maintain a valid Class B Commercial driver's license with Passenger and Air Brake endorsements. Must maintain medical certification administered by INOVA equal to the standards set by the U.S. Department of Transportation. Must maintain a USCP travel credit card. This position requires occasional travel. Drivers must be able to travel outside the Washington metropolitan area as needed.
