Duties

As a National Bank Examiner/Bank Examiner (Lead Expert Risk Specialist) with emphasis in Retail Credit, you will:
  • Provide advice and technical knowledge on supervisory matters within retail credit to supervision management, policy officials,
    subject matter experts and specialists and senior subject matter managers within the OCC.
  • Provide support to large and midsize bank examiners, and to community bank examiners as appropriate, on policies or programs
    initiatives and changes to supervisory procedures and new regulations with respect to retail credit.
  • Work to develop risk-based supervisory strategies, strategy guidance, and supervision resource requirements for retail credit, and supervision at large.
  • Collaborate with other subject matter experts both internally and externally as appropriate to develop and implement mitigation strategies.
  • Identify emerging issues throughout OCC supervised institutions and coordinate findings with other lead experts and risk specialists for retail credit and for other specialty areas, policy officials, and supervision leadership across the OCC.
  • Coordinate and plan with Bank Supervision Policy and respective supervisory training staff, provide input on training and related polices, and may assist or lead in providing training to OCC examiners and staff.

  • Complete a financial disclosure review and resolve any ethics issues.

Qualifications

You must meet the following requirements within 30 calendar days after the closing date of this announcement:

You must have one year of specialized experience at a level of difficulty and responsibility equivalent to the NB-V band level. Examples of specialized experience for this position include:
  • Leading examinations, reviews or audits of a financial institution's compliance with laws, regulations and guidance related to Retail Credit activities (e.g., home equity lending, mortgage lending, credit card, auto or other consumer installment lending, consumer credit products/services, industry/market conditions, third-party/vendor management, internal controls/risk assessment, stress testing, etc.)

The experience may have been gained in the public sector, private sector, or through volunteer service. One year of experience refers to full-time work; part-time work is considered on a prorated basis.

Additional information

  • This position is included in the bargaining unit: NTEU 299 Northeast District, NTEU 300 Central District, and NTEU 302 Headquarters (Washington, DC).
  • Washington, DC; Chicago, IL; New York, NY; Charlotte, NC; and Boston, MA are the preferred locations; though, any U.S. location of the OCC (field or satellite office) will be considered under an alternative work location as defined in PPM 3110-53.
  • Relocation to any of these five cities (Chicago, IL; New York, NY; Washington, DC; Charlotte, NC; and Boston, MA) will be authorized but not between any of these five cities.
  • Applicants applying for the (New York, NY) duty location will be placed in one of two field office locations (Edison, NJ or New York, NY). Selectee's location preference will be considered, to the extent practicable.
  • Selected applicants have the option to work a full-time or part-time work schedule at the discretion of the hiring official.
  • One or more positions may be filled in any of the locations specified above. Selections for duty locations posted will be made based on management needs. All locations may not be filled.
  • If you are a current OCC employee who previously received a waiver determination permitting you to retain bank securities due to extenuating circumstances, please note that this determination may be rescinded if the nature of your duties changes. We strongly suggest that you discuss the potential implications of any change in duties on a prior securities determination with your ethics official.
