Duties

The U.S. Secret Service, Office of Chief Information Officer (OCIO), Customer Solutions Branch, is responsible for defining, communicating, and establishing the major elements of agency wide IT/communications programs to include IT strategic planning, enterprise architecture, capital planning and investment control, IT program management, policies and overall governance and operation of the IT/Communications infrastructure. The CIO is also responsible for information security policy and oversight, e-government, and IT performance metrics to comply with applicable laws, executive orders, directives, policies, and regulations governing information systems.

Duties may include the following:
  • Provide technical advice to senior management officials and strategic IT recommendations for new and/or substantially modified information technology projects;
  • Oversee various phases of IT related projects and user requirements, objectives and alternative solutions, by obtaining costs relating to information technology resource requirements;
  • Prepare procurement requests, develop statements of work and review contract proposals, and may serve as a Contracting Officer's Technical Representative(COTR) in monitoring vendor/contractor performances; implementation, evaluation, and/or dissemination of USSS IT components, tools, and procedures;
  • Work on complex issues in the planning, analysis, design, development, testing, quality assurance, installation, implementation, maintenance, and/or management of information systems needed to deliver IT services in support of the mission;
  • Installing, modifying, troubleshooting and maintaining PC-based, end-point technology (hardware/software) and ensuring the proper operation of PC-based peripheral equipment; resolving activities related to the acquisition, configuration, installation, and maintenance of PCs, and other end user computing devices; analyzing and troubleshooting day-to-day, and sometimes complex technical problems; responding to customers on a variety of end user computing-related questions.
  • Applying proper security practices, procedures, and techniques to ensure the security posture of the PC-based endpoint systems; analyzing and troubleshooting day-to-day, and sometimes complex technical problems and providing customer assistance on a variety of end user computing-related questions.
  • Providing a wide variety of problem resolution assistance to the user community; analyzing and troubleshooting day-to-day, and sometimes complex technical problems; providing customer assistance on a variety of end user computing-related questions.

Qualifications

Qualifications:

You must demonstrate at least one (1) year of the defined specialized experience equivalent to the next lower grade level and meet the Office of Personnel Management (OPM) Individual Occupational Requirements (IOR).

Specialized experience performing duties such as managing enterprise Windows image deployments utilizing the Microsoft Deployment Toolkit (MDT) and System Center Configuration Manager (SCCM); planning and conducting comprehensive testing user acceptance, production implementation and ensuring appropriate security and access controls are in place. Evaluating the nature and scope of business processes to be automated; and advising management regarding the organization of work processes and functions into data systems; network and/or workstation administrator functions which includes installing, maintaining and providing upgrades to systems and monitoring performance and security; and installing, configuring, troubleshooting, and providing technical training pertaining to personal computers (PC's) and associated peripheral devices in response to customer requirements.

Office of Personnel Management (OPM) Individual Occupational Requirements (IOR) is defined as:
  • Attention to Detail - Identifies, addresses, and devises solutions to technical issues impacting IT operations, systems, and technologies; and financial issues impacting budget projections and allocations for personnel and equipment.
  • Customer Service - Works with clients and customers (that is, individuals who use or receive the services or products that your work unit produces, including the general public, individuals who work in the agency, other agencies, or organizations outside the Government) to assess their needs, provide information or assistance, resolve their problems, or satisfy their expectations; knows about available products and services; is committed to providing quality products and services.
  • Oral Communication - Expresses information (for example, ideas or facts) to individuals or groups effectively, taking into account the audience and nature of the information (for example, technical, sensitive, controversial); makes clear and convincing oral presentations; listens to others, attends to nonverbal cues, and responds appropriately.
  • Problem Solving - Identifies problems; determines accuracy and relevance of information; uses sound judgment to generate and evaluate alternatives, and to make recommendations.

  • The full performance grade level is GS-13.

    Education

    Substitution of Education is not allowed for the GS-12 grade level.

    Chicago, Illinois Location: $88,229 (GS-12, step 1) with promotion potential to $114,702 (GS-12, step 10).

    Washington D.C. Location: $89,834.00 (GS-12, step 1) with promotion potential to $116,788.00 (GS-12, step 10).
