Job Announcement

Under direction, plans, organizes, and administers the public affairs and internal departmental communications program for the Department of Tax Administration. Supervises and manages all communication planning and programs for the department. Leads and implements a communication strategy that includes media outreach, special events, community relations, and print content creation. Directs the work of others in the implementation of the communications programs. Drafts statements, scripts, speeches, and op-eds for public communication. Organizes community events and makes presentations on behalf of the department. Produces multimedia productions to support the goals of the department (multimedia may include audio, video, or online productions). Implements and oversees the implementation of print production projects, website development, and new media projects. Conducts audience/taxpayer research for evaluation and measurement of communication programs. Serves as a member of the department's communication planning (strategic planning, action planning) team. Maintains department website and SharePoint sites, social media account(s), and newsletters.

Additional Work Schedule Requirements: Flexible schedule required. May need to work nights and weekends.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Bachelor's degree in communication, journalism, public administration, political science, or field related to a department's business, plus five years of progressively responsible experience in communication area of specialization or area of specialization of department represented.


CERTIFICATES AND LICENSES REQUIRED:
None.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

Strong project management and organizational skills.
Ability to write and edit for departmental publications.
Experience developing written information for a public audience.
Experience developing and implementing comprehensive public information, marketing concepts, and messages to serve various audiences.
Demonstrated experience maintaining websites and newsletters.
Ability to provide excellent customer service to the public, DTA staff, and other county agencies.
Ability to communicate clearly and concisely, orally and in writing.
Ability to make oral presentations to department management, other departments, or the public.
Ability to establish and maintain effective relationships with both internal and external contacts.
Proficiency using Microsoft Office (Word, Publisher, Excel, and Outlook).


NECESSARY SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:

The appointee to the position will be required to complete a criminal background check to the satisfaction of the employer.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

Job is generally sedentary in nature; however, visual acuity is required to read data on computer monitor, incumbent must be able to operate keyboard driven equipment. Must communicate with others. All duties performed with or without reasonable accommodation.
