Responsibilities The George Washington University Hospital (GW Hospital) is a 395-bed tertiary care, academic medical center located in downtown Washington, DC, next to the Foggy Bottom metro. POSITION SUMMARY Provides all aspects of patient care management of inpatients at GWUH. Performs a variety of functions within the scope of practice of Nurse Practitioners and Physician Assistants. This role serves as a liaison for all disciplines and services interfacing with the individual department. The NP/PA will be credentialed according to the medical staff regulation of GWUH and will be under the supervision of an appropriately credentialed attending physician(s). Qualifications POSITION REQUIREMENTS Education/Qualification A master's degree in nursing and completion of an approved course of study as a nurse practitioner. Current ANCC certification and DC licensure as a NP is necessary. A master's degree as physician assistant and completion of an approved course of study as a physician assistant. Current NCCPA certification and DC licensure as a Physician Assistant is necessary. Some previous experience is recommended. PA-C with Current surgical assistant experience - may be grandfathered for SA duties. New Graduate PA or PA-C without recent surgical assisting duties options are Learner status until successful completion of a facility structured orientation program designed for Physician Assistants (such as GWU) Successful completion of individualized learning plan that requires corporate approval. The learning plan will require approval of the Acute Care Corporate CMO. SA-C certification If duties will include surgical first assisting will successfully complete an accredited educational program designed for surgical first assisting. Certification as CRNFA required following training. APRN programs (additional training beyond APRN education) will contain both didactic and 140 hour surgical internship arranged at their facility. Examples of acceptable programs are: NIFA-National Institute of First Assisting ( https://www.rnfa.org/aprn-rnfa/ ) or a forma Surgical Residency/Fellowship Skills Must have excellent verbal and written communication skills. Must be able to communicate providing verbal feedback in a professional manner. Must be able to follow and understand instructions, and react favorably in all work situations. Must have strong interpersonal skills and be mentally adaptable and flexible in dealing with a variety of people at various levels within and outside the Hospital, physicians, and University. Must be able to do math calculations and input data into the computer. Supervision Received General supervision is received weekly to monthly from the designated Team Lead and the Chief, Hospital-Based NP/PA, GWU Hospital.
