Duties

  • Support professional engineers in the planning and fabrication of electronic and electromechanical assemblies for space flight High Voltage instrumentation.
  • Perform NASA standard fabrication for space flight and engineering prototype units including Cables, Crimping and Harnesses (NASA-STD-8739-4), and others.
  • Provide expert consultation on reliable and repeatable space flight High Voltage fabrication best practices on both in-house and out-of-house projects when requested, including knowledge on chemical compatibility and thermal/mechanical stresses.
  • Plan, develop and inspect new or modified fabrication techniques for high reliability space flight High Voltage assemblies supporting applications on various environments.
  • Document and train other technicians and engineers in High Voltage fabrication best practices and contributes to the NASA High Voltage working groups.
  • Design and fabricate custom High Voltage insulators for space flight and experimental prototyping including polymeric encapsulation techniques as per NASA-STD-8739-1, using laser cutter, lathe, and others machining methods.
  • Plan and execute of manual leaded components and pick-and-place surface mount technology printed wiring assemblies for space flight High Voltage and engineering prototype units per NASA soldering standard J-STD-001 IPC.

Qualifications

You must have one year of specialized experience equivalent to the next lower grade, which has equipped you with the particular competencies needed to successfully perform the duties of the position described above.

To qualify for GS-12, you must have one year of directly related specialized experience equivalent to the GS-11 level in the Federal service that includes .
  • Participating in development activities requiring an in-depth knowledge of technical engineering methods, applications, practices, and principles in fabrication of both prototypes and space flight High Voltage electronic assemblies with or without precedent as related to spacecraft;
  • Analyzing and interpreting circuit wiring, drawings, specifications, and schematics of complete systems, equipment, PCB and harnesses to understand and adapt best practices for High Voltage assemblies for space flight applications;
  • Design and planning of manufacturable, high reliability, High Voltage electronics assemblies for a variety of space flight mission environments.
