Duties

• You will utilize diverse and complex therapeutic techniques, or combinations of techniques, based on the specific needs of the patient.
• You will exercise full professional responsibility and individual accountability for his/her findings, interpretations, decisions, recommendations and reports.
• You will assess and provide crisis intervention for individuals with complex behavioral health conditions and problems to include acute and chronic dangerousness.
• You will provide individual, and/or group psychological counseling utilizing a variety of treatment modalities for adult patients.
• You will screen and interview patients, and perform bio-psychological social evaluations, using mastery professional knowledge of general and specific concepts, principles, procedures, and practices relating to psychological counseling.

• There may be times when the employee?s skills may be necessary to cover absences or augment staff in other related areas for which the Psychologist is qualified to work.
• The Psychologist is also required to travel, as much as 10% of the time, within CONUS. Travel may utilize any mode of commercial transportation (air, rail, POV, etc.) as well as government-operated or government-chartered carriers.
• Overtime, compensatory time and/or shift time may be required.
• Must hold a current, unrestricted license to practice psychology in any of the 50 states, the District of Columbia, the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, Guam, or the US Virgin Islands.
• Exposed health care employees who have direct contact with patients will receive appropriate immunization against communicable diseases unless a current immunization, a proactive titer, or a medical exemption is documented.
• The incumbent must, as a condition of employment, be immunized on an annual basis against influenza. Refer to local command influenza instruction.
• You will be required to meet any applicable credentialing or privileging requirements prior to appointment
• A valid doctoral degree (PhD or Psy D) in clinical or counseling psychology from an American Psychological Association (APA) accredited doctoral program or completion an APA accredited internship/postdoctoral fellowship.
• Successful completion of a pre-employment drug test (including marijuana) is required. A tentative offer of employment will be rescinded if you fail to report to the drug test appointment or fail the test. You will be subject to random testing.

Qualifications

In addition to the Basic Requirements for this position, your resume must also demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-12 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience must demonstrate the following:

• Providing counseling services to clients with difficulty and complex problems of misuse or abuse of alcohol, illicit substances and non-substance related addictive behaviors.
• Working in outpatient and/or inpatient mental health settings.
• Administering, interpreting, and providing complete substance abuse and psychological assessments of patients for diagnosis and the development of quality treatment plans.
• Providing psychotherapy, marital and family therapy.
• Providing training in screening, assessment, diagnosis and treatment to Substance Abuse Counselor Interns and Certified Substance Abuse Counselors.

Basic Requirements

Degree: major or equivalent in psychology for all specializations except clinical psychology and counseling psychology. These two specializations have additional educational requirements, as stated below: (Transcripts must be provided)

• Clinical psychology: For positions at grades GS-11 and above, satisfactory completion of all the requirements for the doctoral degree (Ph.D. or equivalent) directly related to full professional work in clinical psychology is required.
• Counseling psychology: For positions at grades GS-9 and above, satisfactory completion of 2 full academic years of graduate study directly related to professional work in counseling psychology, or satisfactory completion in an accredited educational institution of all the requirements for a master's degree directly related to counseling psychology is required.
