Job Description

The Washington Post is seeking a creative, accomplished and experienced leader to serve as economics editor.

The economics editor will drive coverage of the economy at a critical time, as the nation grapples with rapidly changing views of work, the rise of a grass-roots labor movement and a host of pressures -- from rampant inflation to the war in Ukraine - that threaten to stall the post-pandemic recovery. This high-octane team has front-line responsibility for covering some of the biggest stories on Capitol Hill, at the White House and across a nation where voters identify inflation and the economy as top concerns heading into midterm elections this fall.

The ideal candidate will be an experienced, effective, empathetic leader who is highly organized and has a strong record of leading reporters to deliver journalistic excellence. We are looking for someone who can motivate a team to break agenda-setting news while simultaneously guiding ambitious, insightful enterprise work.

There is a strong internal candidate for this position, but we are interested in hearing from anyone with a passion for editing economic news. This position is based in our Washington newsroom and is not eligible for remote work.

The Post strives to provide its readers with high-quality, trustworthy news and information while constantly innovating. That mission is best served by a diverse, multi-generational workforce with varied life experiences and perspectives. All cultures and backgrounds are welcomed.

Interested candidates should upload a résumé with links to their work and a cover letter to our jobs portal by 05/26/2022, outlining the experience they would bring to the position. Your cover letter should be addressed to Business Editor Lori Montgomery and Deputy Business Editor Damian Paletta.
