Position Information
The Arlington County Fire Department (ACFD) is seeking a Warehouse Technician to manage the supply inventory for the Logistics Division. The employee selected will be responsible for placing and managing the delivery of regular and rare supply orders; loading and unloading supplies weighing up to 25 pounds from vehicles; maintaining accurate records of shipments and supply inventory; purchasing, creating billing reports; reconciling delivery and billing errors with external and internal vendors.

Specific duties include:

  • Receiving requests for supply purchases from departmental units, confirming the needed specifications of uniforms and PPE gear, and researching available vendors;
  • Utilizing countywide purchases procedures to buy materials, supplies, parts and equipment to fulfill order requests and/or supply or restock inventory;
  • Maintaining inventory of supplies, following up on back-ordered items or incomplete/incorrect orders;
  • Maintaining inventory control system ensuring all stock movements including purchase orders and completed deliveries are accounted for and tracked;
  • Disbursing supplies to authorized personnel;
  • Communicating with vendors, contractors, staff, and department leadership regarding such topics as specific orders, inventory requests, and item availability;
  • Scheduling freight and package pickups with shipping carriers; and
  • Ensuring the quality of shipments received by checking for damages, testing, cleaning and storing in designated locations.

Selection Criteria

  • High school diploma or equivalent; and
  • Two years of responsible technical or administrative experience related to warehouse operations, including buying, receiving, storing and issuing supplies/tools, materials, parts and equipment, and maintaining the associated records systems.
Substitution: Successful completion of college coursework from an accredited college or university can be substituted for the experience requirement on the following basis:

  • Two (2) years = six (6) months of experience;
  • Four (4) years = one (1) year of experience; and
  • Additional experience may be substituted for up to two (2) years of high school on a year-for-year basis.
Desirable: Preference may be given to candidates with experience in one or more of the following:

  • Previous experience with public safety or military warehouse operations;
  • Previous experience using standup forklifts, pallet jacks, and/or other warehouse equipment; and
  • Certification to operate special warehouse equipment, such as a forklift.

Special Requirements
Applicant must possess, or obtain by time of appointment, a valid driver's license. Any offer of employment may be contingent upon a favorable review of the applicant's driving record.
