Administrative Assistant - Department of Systems Engineering and Operations ResearchThe George Mason University Department of Systems Engineering and Operations Research (SEOR), within the College of Engineering and Computing (CEC), seeks a proactive, organized, self-reliant, and professional Administrative Assistant. The position supports the following departmental programs: BS in Systems Engineering, MS in Systems Engineering, MS in Operations Research, and PhD in Systems Engineering and Operations Research. The position also supports the interdisciplinary MS in Data Analytics Engineering through the Predictive Analytics and Financial Engineering concentrations. This position will work in conjunction with one or more additional SEOR Administrative and Program Specialists.Responsibilities:The SEOR Administrative Assistant is a key person in the academic and administrative management of the SEOR Department. Key responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the items below:Provide information, guidance and assistance to SEOR students (particularly graduate students) regarding administrative and academic matters;Review online graduation submissions and graduation requirements for all SEOR graduate students;Coordinate teaching schedules with the Department Chair;Coordinate with the scheduling office to make necessary changes to classes;Provide support for updating departmental brochures and catalog, particularly graduate-related brochures;Make arrangements for departmental functions such as advisory board meetings, seminars, retreats, graduation events, receptions, student design competition events, etc.;Monitor office supplies, make calls to students, and perform other miscellaneous duties;Support reconciliation of department accounts, resolution of budget issues;Act as backup to other admin staff to distribute and collect hiring paperwork, originate contracts, enter personnel assignments, and collect official transcripts of adjuncts;Perform administrative duties associated with contract courses including processing special payments; andOther duties as assigned.Required Qualifications:Bachelor's degree or an equivalent combination of education and experience;Demonstrated interpersonal and communication skills (both written and verbal);Demonstrated customer service skills;Prior experience working effectively with a wide range of constituencies in a diverse community; andProficient computer skills and demonstrated experience with office software (particularly Microsoft Word and Excel) and email applications.Preferred Qualifications:Bachelor's degree;Demonstrated directly relevant experience with office and financial management;Knowledge of university procedures, policies and regulations; andPrior experience working within university information systems (e.g., schedule classes, process expense reimbursements, administer student records and advising, organize departmental events, etc.).A Force for Innovation in the Heart of Northern Virginia's Technology CorridorThe College of Engineering and Computing at George Mason University is comprised of the Volgenau School of Engineering and a new School of Computing.
