The Lead Medical Laboratory Scientist assists the Laboratory Section Supervisor and/or Laboratory Manager in the operational and/or technical management of the Chemistry section by ensuring proper day to day operations of the laboratory discipline(s) and serves as a resource person for problem solving. Responds to changes in workload as necessary, and leads adjustments in work assignments in real-time fashion in the absence of the supervisor. The Lead is accountable for ensuring that appropriate and timely specimen handling, delivery, specimen testing, results reporting and customer service are provided in efficient and cost effective manner in accordance with laboratory and hospital policies and procedures. The Lead works independently in cooperation with the Laboratory Section Supervisor or Laboratory Manager and/or Out Patient Service Center Manager (if applicable). In the absence of a supervisor, may be designated to serve as acting supervisor, with all incumbent duties of the supervisor.Minimum Requirements:-Baccalaureate degree from a regionally accredited college/university, including 16 semester hours (24 quarter hours) of biological science (with one semester in microbiology), 16 semester hours (24 quarter hours) of chemistry (with one semester in organic or biochemistry), one semester (one quarter) of mathematics. (OR Associates Degree in Medical Laboratory Technology for Incumbents in position prior to 2005).-Three (3) years' experience as a medical laboratory scientist or clinical laboratory scientist.-MLS (ASCP), MT (ASCP), MT (AMT), or CLS (NCA) or equivalent certification or MLT(ASCP) for Incumbents in position prior to 2005.Special Knowledge, Skills, and/or Abilities:Normal color perceptionBasic computer literacyFluently speaks, reads and writes in the English languageExcellent ability to manage personnel and workflowWorking knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel, Lotus Notes, Clinical Database softwareAbility to fully concentrate on task at hand for extended periods of time and to maintain concentration through frequent interruptions.Strong learning and memory skills; ability to process verbal communications efficientlyAbility to collect data, problem solve, establish facts, and draw conclusionsAbility to perform under stress when confronted with emergency or critical situationsAbility to perform a variety of duties and multi-task, without loss of efficiency or composureAbility to clearly communicate, present ideas, facts, and clinical informationAbility to maintain interpersonal relationships, facilitating task accomplishments, cooperating and resolving conflicts, recognizing needs and being sensitive to others.
