WHAT YOU'LL BE DOING DAY TO DAY

As a Supervisory Social Science Analyst, you will serve as Director of the Division of Children and Youth Policy in the Office of Human Services Policy ASPE, and use your knowledge and experience to optimize HHS's work to improve child and youth wellbeing by:

Defining high priority, policy focused topics for research, evaluation and policy analysis to inform decisions about children and youth programs and policy.

Developing plans and methodologies for data collection and analysis which would aid in the consideration of a broad range of policy initiatives and evaluation of programs which affect human services programs such as early learning programs, child welfare and child protection, home visiting, prevention of teen pregnancy and youth risk behaviors, and positive child and youth development.

Briefing highest officials of the Department on results of analyses and research and the evaluation of human services programs and proposed policies for children and youth.

Ensuring that the Division's research, evaluation and policy analysis agenda and work are up-to-date and responsive to the Associate Deputy Assistant Secretary, Deputy Assistant Secretary, Assistant Secretary for Planning and Evaluation and other departmental leadership.

Supervising a staff of social science analysts and program analysts on a variety of issues critical to the development, evaluation and implementation of human services for children and youth.

Qualifications

WHAT WE ARE LOOKING FOR

Basic Qualifications:

A. Must have at least a bachelor's degree in behavioral or social science; or related disciplines appropriate to the position.

OR

B. Must have a combination of education and experience that provided the candidate with knowledge of one or more of the behavioral or social sciences equivalent to a major in the field.

OR

C. Must have at least four (4) years of appropriate experience that demonstrated that the candidate has acquired knowledge of one or more of the behavioral or social sciences equivalent to a major in the field.

Additional Qualification Requirement: In addition to meeting the Basic Qualification Requirements candidates must also:

Have at least one year of specialized experience, equivalent to the GS-14 grade level in the Federal service that includes developing and analyzing policy proposals for human services programs (e.g legislative, regulatory, or sub-regulatory policy changes); conducting or applying policy analysis evaluation, or research methods for human services programs and policies that support at-risk children, youth, families, or non-elderly individuals, including measures such as implementation, outcomes, and equity; providing leadership, expert advice, or guidance on the analysis of existing and proposed human services policy issues; evaluating or monitoring the effectiveness of analysis and/or evaluation policies and programs to ensure that objectives/goals are met; coordinating across multiple human services programs, fields, or sectors to improve results.
