The Benefit Programs Strategist will lead a range of strategic planning, new program development and community solution development efforts. Immediate responsibilities include collaborating with the Grants Administration and Innovation teams to develop, implement and iterate a new program development model focused on partnering with local organizations to solve for benefit access problems in their community. The Strategist analyzes public, employer/ private benefits programs to identify potential areas of portfolio growth for the Benefits team and makes recommendations and crafts compelling business cases. This position contributes to customer research, insight gathering and subsequent sharing internally and externally.


  • Develops and implements solutions. Executes and evaluates existing programs to identify improvements and to measure outcomes.
  • Collaborates with program leadership in the development of long-term goals and strategic plans to ensure continued successful growth and scalability.
  • Uses existing data to identify program enhancements and identifies needed data and research to maximize insight and experience management.
  • Managing enterprise assets and budgets. Project and process management.
  • Partner and stakeholder engagement (including volunteers, participants and program partners).
  • Reporting on program activities/outcomes.


  • Master's degree preferred, especially in the fields of design, business, or social impact.
  • 5+ years project management skills and the ability to manage multiple concurrent priorities.
  • 3+ years facilitation and coaching experience.
  • 3+ years leading or facilitating strategic planning projects.
  • Ability to analyze new opportunities and to develop go-forward recommendations.
  • Experience leveraging a user-centered design process for social good programs, products or services.
  • Experience turning consumer insights into meaningful new programs.
  • Experience designing and running prototypes and pilots with strong measurement metrics.
  • Experience building relationships and establishing organizational credibility within a new space.
  • This is an in-office position and the ability to work effectively surrounded by moderate noise level is required.
  • Demonstrated verbal communication skills required.

Flexible Work Arrangement (FWA)

AARP observes Mondays and Fridays as telecommuting workdays, except for essential functions. Remote work and telecommuting can only be done within the United States and its territories.
