Performance Analyst Fellow


An Overview
The City of Alexandria is using data and analysis to help us make smarter decisions to deliver efficient and effective services. The Office of Performance and Accountability (OPA) leads this effort by providing analytical internal consulting services to the City Manager and all departments. The fellowship will be from May to June 2022.

The fellow will assist in analyzing important topics with the goal of presenting findings and recommendations to decision-makers; collecting and/or improving the City’s business intelligence data; developing dashboards (using Tableau software); and thoughtfully considering the needs of partner departments.

Examples of Work
Analysis reports: Analyze problems and write reports with the goal of presenting findings and recommendations to help inform decisions. Projects focus on critical service delivery challenges and questions of import for the City Manager and departments. These projects can range in complexity and scope. Examples include analyzing business processes, examining service delivery issues, determining root causes, evaluating programs, and analyzing workload/staffing issues.

Dashboards: Help departments implement and use an interactive and visual dashboard that provides business intelligence for the public and departmental use. This includes working closely with departments to identify data sources, select indicators, and visualize data.

What We Are Looking For
OPA is looking for a Performance Analyst Fellow that is interested in working on a diverse set of City government challenges. To be successful in this position, the selected candidate must be able to work independently with guidance from OPA staff and be interested in working on and growing their skillset in analysis and dashboard projects.

About the Office
The mission of the Office of Performance Analytics (OPA) is to help the City deliver efficient and effective services by informing decisions through measurement and analysis. OPA works with all departments and the City Manager on a wide range of topics and issues including analysis reports, internal dashboards, public dashboards, and scientific surveys. OPA's work is regularly recognized as a national leader.

Minimum & Additional Requirements

The candidate must either be enrolled in an accredited college/university and have completed at least two years of academic coursework (60 credit hours or equivalency); have earned a Bachelor's or master's degree within the previous two years; or currently enrolled in an advanced degree program from an accredited college/university; with a beginning, moderate, or intermediate proficiency in MS Office Suite reflective of their tier of education.
