Director, Agile Portfolio Lead (Card Authorizations)

The Agile Portfolio Director provides Agile Delivery Services for Technology and Product executives who share accountability for a set of products and platforms delivered by Agile Delivery Teams. As the Agile Portfolio Director, you'll lead a team of Agile Program Leads and team-level Agile Delivery Leads.

The Agile Portfolio Director advances Tech, Product, Business, Risk and Operations leaderships' understanding of their roles within Agile software delivery and influences our organizational agility. They also serve as an inspirational leader who attracts and retains talent, and creates high levels of energy and motivation throughout challenges, impediments and change. Their values and philosophies are well understood and are contagious in all directions organizationally, resulting in positive influence across teams and groups.

This is a Director, Agile Portfolio Lead Authorizations portfolio within Card Tech and will guide strategy for the 20+ agile technology teams with accountability for the entire agile delivery organization. Authorizations are the lifeline to Capital One's credit card operations, decisioning millions of transactions daily and ensuring our customers get accurate, real-time decisions. The Agile Portfolio Lead will help ensure we maintain a resilient, well-managed platform as well as helping build out our destination vision for the future.

In this role, you will:
  • Measurably improves the flow of Agile delivery through continuous improvement through data-driven analysis and other feedback mechanisms
  • Actively drives delivery and advances key business & tech initiatives from ideation to launch
  • Leads adoption of tooling & tracking mechanisms to ensure teams & the organization are well-managed and easily able to demonstrate progress, status, & risks/impediments.
  • Partners with Product, Engineering and Architecture to proactively identify opportunities to improve the efficiency and effectiveness of delivery and rapidly validate (or invalidate!) those improvements.
  • Deploys governance that empowers team level decision-making
  • Builds trusted relationships with product and other stakeholders and influences adoption of Agile delivery practices and norms (can have difficult and constructive conversations and push back when needed).
  • Applies advanced facilitation and dependency management techniques to drive cross-program and departmental planning, collaboration, and coordination.
  • Supports issue resolution, risk mitigation, and escalation to leadership groups.
  • Leads effective planning ceremonies, such as initiative refinement and PI planning, across multiple programs.
  • Facilitates trade-off discussions amid conflicting priorities
  • As a people leader, builds a vision for Agile Delivery across the portfolio, creates alignment within their leadership team, executes upon this vision, and broadly communicates it.
  • Actively coaches and improves the performance of direct reports by routinely providing clear, candid, and actionable feedback.
  • Coaches performance across the board. Seeks to elevate high performers and coach those needing additional support.
  • Celebrates individual and team successes with appropriate recognition and rewards.
  • Builds a culture that fosters diversity, inclusion, and belonging and helps grow diverse teams; actively advocate for under-represented communities.

Basic Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's Degree
  • At least 5 years of Agile experience
  • At least 5 years of people management experience
  • At least 7 years of Project Management, Process Management, or Software Delivery experience

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Masters Degree
  • 10+ years of Project Management, Process Management, or Software Delivery experience
  • 8+ years of Agile experience
  • 7+ years of people management experience
  • 3+ years of Agile coaching experience
  • SAFe, Lean, Agile, PMP or Six Sigma certification
