Senior Associate, KYC Specialist

Commercial Operations (CML Ops) is one of the largest divisions in the Commercial Bank. This team's scope is horizontal across the bank, and as such it supports numerous critical processes and transactions. By incubating innovative solutions and embracing technology, this team creates an unforgettable and unparalleled experience for our associates and clients. One of the most impactful groups in the CML Ops team is the Client Solutions team. The Client Solutions team works with the Commercial Bank's clients, both proactively and reactively for all of their servicing needs. All our associates are on the frontline, delivering on our commitment to provide a beautiful client experience. We are growing and looking for great customer focused advocates to join the team. We are currently searching for a KYC Specialist.

The Commercial Know your Customer (KYC) Fulfillment team is responsible for ensuring that the Commercial Bank meets Anti-Money Laundering (AML) rules as dictated by regulations. Associates will have knowledge of AML and KYC programs, regulations, standards and compliance requirements and apply them to new and existing clients. They will analyze and interpret documents based on corporate/legal formation documentation and structures in order to extract relevant customer information. In addition, associates will research, consult with compliance and bankers, escalate, address unresolved issues and manage information in the system of record. Associates will also interact with the Quality Control team on findings and improvements.

We are seeking an individual who has strong attention to detail, keen problem-solving skills, and communicates effectively with both external and internal customers. In addition, this person should be eager to understand Commercial Banking and AML requirements. The candidate should have the ability to engage in interactive dialogue with customers through active listening. He/she approaches problems logically and with good judgment to ensure the appropriate outcome. The individual can make appropriate decisions on behalf of regulations and the customer. The ideal candidate will also be open to change, share ideas with the team and leaders, listen to ideas from teammates, and assure processes and procedures are accurate.

Responsibilities and Ideal Candidate:
  • Determine KYC requirements for clients based on type of structure and relationship
  • Verify Customer Information Program (CIP) data for clients from documents and additional research
  • Engage bankers and clients to obtain missing information
  • Responsible for submitting OFAC/PEP/Neg News screening requests to AML team
  • Partner with compliance on escalations and red flags
  • Enter and maintain required CDD data elements in system
  • Address and resolve findings and errors identified during quality review process
  • Review and complete EDD requests from AML team within required timeframe
  • Review and complete Customer Information refresh requests from AML team
  • Follow policies and procedures to assure consistent adherence to requirements
  • Identify process improvements
  • Share best practices with teammates across locations
  • Cross-train on various lines of business to flex in cases of high volume or tight timelines and to back up teammates
  • Work in a team environment across locations


Work at Home Technology Requirements:
  • A secure home office environment that is free from background noise and distractions
  • A reliable private internet connection that is not supplied by use cellular data (hot spot)
  • Cable or fiber connections are preferred
  • Internet service download speeds must be at least 5 mbps, with 10+ mbps preferred - check your download speed using a speed test. A sample one can be found here . To test your home internet from your personal computer at home, type www.speedtest.net into the web browser of your personal computer.
  • Sustained ability to maintain latency less than 250 ms in voice calls is required
  • Hard wired connectivity is preferred, any use of wireless connectivity must be Private (non-public) and password protected through WPA2-PSK (AES) encryption. If you have any questions about your encryption, please consult with your internet provider
  • A private network is password protected where you have ownership or line of sight to every device on the network
  • Capital One reserves the right to request proof of internet provider, speed and service package from the associate
  • Requirements are subject to change, as new systems and technology is delivered. Capital One reserves the right to modify internet service requirements with sixty (60) days notice.


Candidates must live within 100 miles driving distance of one of the hub locations based in Melville, NY or Richmond, VA.

Basic Requirements:
  • At least 2 years of experience working in operations
  • At least 2 years of experience working in Microsoft Office or Google Suite


Preferred Requirements:
  • Bachelor's Degree or military experience
  • At least 1 year of experience working in a commercial bank
  • At least 1 year of experience working with AML (Anti-Money Laundering) or at least 1 year of experience working with KYC (Know Your Customer)
  • At least 1 year of experience working in Compliance, Risk, Legal, or Audit
